Newbie question: What are "G10" scales

Hey All: I've bought a couple of knives, and seen others advertised, that tout "G10" for their scales. This material seems to come at a premium to most others used in the production of the same knives with different material used for the scales. I'm sure this question has been asked before on the boards, but what exactly is "G10", and why is it considered a premium material for knife scales (or not). Thanks, TopperK.

It's a glass fiber matrix filled with epoxy resin. I consider it one of the best choices for the handles of tactical and hard use knives.

There is already lots of information on this subject out there, here's an example.

right above your post is a blue tool bar. within that bar is the word "search". click this and type in lower case "g" and 10 (no space). scroll down and there is a good link for g-10. (if you know about the search here, it can be testy, just try variations of what you want)
