This is my first post on BladeForums. Ive been collecting folding knives for about 15 years and as a southpaw its been slim pickins for dressy folders. I have been researching left-handed custom gentleman's folder for several months and have contacted several makers including Allen Elishewitz and Mel Pardue about making a custom lefty. After reviewing the CRK website however, I decided a left-handed Mnandi fits the bill for me. Although Ive never handled one or seen one in person, I chose the Mnandi for several reasons: overall design, meticulous craftsmanship, uniqueness, light-weight (1.5 oz), Integral Lock (most other gentleman's folders use the more common liner lock), blade length to handle length ratio (2.75" : 3.625"), "non-threatening" appearance and size (good for polite company), and low profile pocket clip with tip-up carry. I also have read everything I could find on this forum about the Mnandi and I was encouraged by the abundance of positive feedback.
Yesterday I placed an order for my first ever custom dress folder: a left-handed Mnandi with Snakewood inlays and stainless Devin Thomas Raindrop Damascus. I was very impressed by the friendly, helpful staff at CRK! Today I was poking around on this forum and ran into a photo of the Mnandi with Snakewood inlays and Ladder Damascus. I was immediately struck by how well the Ladder complemented the grain in the Snakewood. I have several months to make a change and am already leaning towards the Ladder. I am interested to know your thoughts regarding which Damascus pattern best matches the Snakewood inlay I'd love to hear your opinions or see any photos you might have of your Mnandis. Thanks!
