Hello all,

I'm new to the forum and would like to buy a good folding knife. I hike, rock and mountain-climb and I'm interested in buy a knife that can be carried and used in a variety of conditions (rain, snow, etc) for a variety of uses. I narrowed my chooses down to three companies:

Benchmade: 710 sbt, 806 sd2, 910 sbt, snody resister, or the 943 sbt.
Spyderco: military or para military.
Crkt: carson m16 special forces.

Has anyone compared these knifes? If so which would be the best? Your opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I dont think you will be unhappy with any of the above. If you can just go to a store and handle them, just to make sure.

The 806 & 710 have a big fan base here for Benchmade
Both the Spyderco versions are perfectly fine for what you want
I havent handled a M16 but enough people here like them so you should be fine.

Basically its going to be what shape do you like as the performance is going to pretty close on most of them.

consider a CRKT 21M series??

I have the M16-14. Have Handle more knives after join this forum, I start to pass with tanto blades. Tantos are cooler looking, but as user knives, I found blade shape of 21M is more useful. CRKT is cheap & nice quality. Hard to find a reason not to like them.

As for Military, size is really up to you. I like bigger blades. But as EDC para is ideal. Quality is Superb with any spyderco.

For BM, personal taste, I like 940 series better.

Amoung all you mention, if is for EDC, I will go for Spydi Para. For price and functional. I go for CRKT M21, or a M16-13, a not so tanto version.

I'll nominate the 710, have an EDC one myself.

As for cold weather usage, i'll nominate the thumbstuds over any hole when used with gloves or fingers are frozen, YMMV.

Happy cuttings.

I've had a BM 806 for a little while now and its been a great knife. Easy for me to open with or without gloves. For me its been a great addition to my collection, and has become my primary folder for outdoor activities. Although it has been discontinued by Benchmade you should be able to still find one.
