i have narrowed down my choice of knives to 3 and would like some help in narrowing it down to one.....the three knives are ....emerson cqc-7,microtech socom, mod cqd.......i like the black blades but would like some opinions on the other style blades.....the thing i like about the emerson....i like the wave opening feature.....right now i own 2 kershaws a blackout 1550st and i just bought a 1660 leek but i would like to get 1 really nice knife....any help in narrowing this decision down would be great .....Thanks guys.....Jimmy D

Of the 3 mentioned, I would recomend the Microtech Socom Elite. I have had a few and still have one. Love them and will never be without one again. Fit and Finish is perfect. Lock is strong as a Sebenza  and they are priced very reasonable.

I have a CQD and an Emerson Commander...based on my experience, I would say DEFINITELY get the CQD! The CQD is my favourite knife and, IMHO, one of the (if not, the) best tactical folder ever designed (I've made multiple posts about this so I won't bore you here)...be aware that the CQD is A LOT thicker than the Emerson (I like that...you may not)...IMHO, the Wave is cool but it's not worth basing your decision on it.

As for the SOCOM...I've never owned a Microtech but from those that I have handled, they do appear to be high quality (and SHARP) knives.

good point about making my decision on just the wave feature.....as far as the socom elite i don't think i can get one here in mass.....as far as i know they're auto....i might be wrong :)......as far as the thickness of the knife does it get in the way of everyday things?......also on the opening of the knife are the ones i listed as fast as the kershaws i have already?......i like the quickness of the kershaws......i done a good amount of reading on the knives but was hoping to hear from people who have everyday experience with them.....aside from the material quality one of my biggest intrests is how the knife opens.....thanks for the helpful info anymore would be greatly appreciated.....Jimmy D

You can get the Socom in manual action or auto. Id go with the CQD. The CQD and Socom have the same blade and handle materials. 154 cm steel and t6 aluminum handles. I think both knives are smooth and either one would be a good choice. The cqc-7 is a great knife for the money. I got a cqc-7 on trade last week and its a great EDC. I have seen them for less than $100. All 3 are nice, depends on how much ya wanna spend.

many questions here...ok...yes, you can get the SOCOM in manual

the thickness does not get in the way at all FOR ME...again, I PREFER a thick handle (and it contributes to design...the CQD can serve as an impact weapon if necessary)...here's a pic of my CQD and Commander

as for opening...well, the Kershaws have a spring assist...neither the CQD nor the Commander (CQC7) have spring assist...IMHO, with th eproper technique, you can open ANY folder with lightning speed (believe me, I have seen Michael Janich open a folder in real life...UNREAL)...in fact, I have more confidence in a "manual" than a spring assisted or auto because nothing can "fail" (have you ever seen a Kershaw or an Onion when the system gets worn out? They open in slow motion)...anyway, in answer to your question, the Commander is more "loose" so it can be flicked more easily.

i was just cruzin through the store link from the blade forum.....i like the mod military issue cqd very much also i like the rainbow blade cqd.....i believe they are both limited editions.....both look great and i like the window breaker and the small blade on the bottom of the handle.....is there a better knife when i get up in that price range?......that would be as heavy duty and solid as the cqd?.....i'am thinking the price is a little higher because of the limited edition title both of these knives carry.....Jimmy D

You are right...they are limited editions (and the military version has a sharpened top edge!)...the Strider AR (or tanto blade GB) is just as heavy duty (shown with a Sebenza for size comparison)

...as you move up into that price range, you may as well start to look at customs like my Crawford Wortac

or my Farid T1000 :)

Welcome to the Forums!:)

The Socom Elite is, IMO, a classic. You made an excellent choice. Best of luck with it. Come on back and let us know your reactions when you get it.

Of the 3 you mentioned......I'm with the folks for the MT Socom Elite.
I have some Mini Socoms and for a Production knife its the Bees Knees.
I prefer the stone wash or bead blast finish myself.
