I have been looking on the Swamp Rat store page, I don't see nearly half the models shown here on this site. Does anyone have a link as to where to purchase them.
Also I am shopping for a fixed blade, where do you people feel Swamp Rats rank with Ranger knives? Not trying to stir the pot, honest question, Rangers are half the price of the Swamps, what makes them that much better?

it's all in the 2nd post
If you'd like to view some reviews, pictures of discontinued models and some general info please visit

they have all the discontinued models.

the "swamp" is not updated very often either...just hang around here & you'll get the hang of it

the second thread in this forum explains it pretty well

"If you are new to Swamp Rat Knives read this First!!!"

here is where you can buy them

sorry, I suppose I should have read the thread first. That answers one of my questions, now to the second, what makes Swamp Rats more desireable than Ranger Knives, again not trying to stir the pot, I am new to the knife world, more of a gun nut but am getting into knives more.

I like different kinds of steels and was wanting a blade in 52100. I saw that SR-101 is a modified 52100 and the M6 had a differential heat treat; something else I was looking for so I bought it. So I killed two rats with one stone. Nothing wrong with Ranger knives at all. They are well made using extremely tough, well heat treated steels and they are affordable to boot. Whatever floats your boat is what makes it desirable.

I have both Rangers and Swamp Rats (among other knives) and hold each in high regard. Both have excellent warranties and great products. Swamp Rats use a proprietary heat treat process (as do Busse & Scrapyard) that has proven to make great knives perform very well. If you want a Swamp Rat (Busse or Scrapyard knife) you need to read a bit on the forums so you know when releases are coming out and jump on them. You can find them on the secondary market but the price is usually higher (see the Busse/Scrapyard/Swamp Rat for sale forum on this site).

The thing that is nice/more desireable about Rangers knives is that if I want a custom knife, I can call the maker and have him make one for me at a fair price in any steel I want.

Both are great companies. Good luck with getting the knife you want. If you check out the forums you can meet some folks who might be able to help you out in getting a hold of the knife you want.
Thanks, that was pretty much the answer I was looking for. I know, at least in the gun world people are not that open minded and tend to bash other manufacturers.
cheers
Bill

what do you do in the gun world?
I am just a long time gun nut/target shooter, nothing too exciting but I do have a nice collection. I have always likes knives, just never really collected them outside of my pocket knife collection when I was a kid.

There is plenty of bashing on the knife forums as well typically in general forums. I think you will find the Swamp Rat/Busse/Scrapyard folks tend to be very friendly and if you stick around you will meet some really good people.

What knife were you looking for by the way?
Well I have a good utility knife and a good folder. I am looking for a good camping/backpacking everything knife for the wilderness/mountains. I was originally looking at the Ranger series RD6 or RD7 but they both seem a bit large to wear on a belt so then I decided maybe I would use something that size as more a pack knife and get a 3-4 inch blade to wear (funny, this is how the whole gun obsession started).

SilverBullets,
Welcome to the Swamp Rat Forum, I'm glad that you stopped by and I hope you stick around and join in our discussions.

:D:D

I have both Swamp Rats and Rangers and love them both. It really comes down to whether I like the styling of a particular knife between them. Each has a plus and a minus regarding availability. Over the course of time SR has greater variety, but it is harder to get a specific knife. Ranger on the other hand has less variety, but you can get what Justin produces easier.

Hello! I am also new to the Swamprat "cult" knives. I have yet to own one, but am waiting for them to get some more RMD's in stock...

So what do you guys mostly use your SR's for? Collecting, yardwork, camping, survival training? I am in LE and plan to strap one to my leg along with my back-up gun. Can't have to many toys!

I have 3 swamprats (battle rat and 2 RMD's) and use them for camping, bush craft and whatever else a strong sharp knife is needed for. I figure if you have it you might as well use it. I have been impressed looking at the knife exchange, that even non-mint or user knives seem to hold their price, which in my mind is a testament of their quality.
