I have a buck 110 that I carried all through High school. It has a / on the blade is this a 1993 production? What steel was used during this year (420)? Did they ever make any 110s with nickle bolsters and finger grooves that was not a custom order knife? Thanks for any help.:)

V8r,

Welcome to the Buck Forum. I'd say you found the right place for Buck knife questions.
Blade steel in 1993 was 425M.

Link to date codes: http://www.pmphotography.com/Links/buck_knife_date_codes.htm

I would guess that at some time or another a limited edition or special edition got produced in NS and FG. I can't think of one off hand but LE's by their low production and general use of higher grade materials in handles, etching etc tend to resemble custom shop knives more than production knives.

Maybe David Martin will comment on 425M vs 420HC. He knows alot about 425M and likes it as a blade steel.

V8r,Welcome. I noticed in our latest issue of Buck knives magazine, that the cut off date for 425 being issued/used was 1992 - .The official statement. This is a change as it was 1993 for years. However, I have a few / 1993 blades in my collection and they sharpen differently than the 420HC.So, I suspect there was some production bleed over into 1993 for that steels use.425M is certainly a upgrade steel and holds its edge longer.
There were some 110 FG with NS bolsters made in the late 80's as Limited Editions/Special Projects. Then some in the 90's.Check Blade's book on knives for their numbers.Around page 440.DM

Thanks guys for the help.I am kinda used to s30v,vg10 etc .I normally gravitate to Spyderco knives, but I believe the Buck 110 is one of the most classy looking designs there will ever be.Mine is very well made, but dosen't hold a edge as well as I like.I think this knife would be awesome with a s30v blade.I have been kicking around the idea of a custom shop 110 with s30v blade, nickle bolsters, finger grooves, rivets, and stag scales.:)Are the custom shop knives worth the money? Are they as well put together as my current 110?
