Hello everyone. This is my first post. I've been hanging around for awhile, and so far I'm very impressed. I had no idea there were so many freaks out there like myself!

I have two questions to ask y'all.

1. Spyderco Ceramic bench stones. Are they worth the cost? What can you tell me that isn't a repitition of Spyderco propoganda? I just broke my favorite hard Arkansas stone that I've had for the last fifteen years (boy did I want to cry, Is that wrong?) and I need a replacement. I really like the idea of a oil/water-less system but I'm not sure if the hype can be believed. If any of you have any experience with these please let me know.

2. Microtech Socom Elite

I just bought my first Microtech about a month ago. I bought it before I found this forum and spent about $30 to much at a gun/knife show

but I don't really feel burned. This knife is like a wet dream come true (I'm stroking the firing button right now....mmmmmmmmm). It's number 0542 born 6/2000. I've been carrying and using it everyday. It's just starting to loose it's edge a little. Still can shave but not as scary sharp as I'd like. I really like the way that the edge has been holding up and I want to know the angle at which Microtech sharpens these blades. Do any of you know?

Thanks in advance. I'll try not to be a pain in the @ss but I'm a newbie, so expect numerous questions from me. I've got an appetite for blade.

Spydie stones are excellent and do a great job on my tanto SOCOM (as well as everything else)

I have two of the Spyderco stones, I think they're 8"x2". The first thing that's nice about them is that they're BIG. Second, not having to use oil (versus your old Arkansas stone) is great. I don't even use water, just use 'em dry. Third, they clean up quickly and easily -- use a steel wool pad with cleanser on it, like a Brillo or SOS pad.

I like my 6"x2" DMT diamond hones better, but the diamond hones are costlier and wear out more quickly, so it's a tradeoff.

I prefer Crock Stick V sharpeners over the Spyderco Sharpmaker. Not only are they about 1/3 the cost, they are just as easy to use and I actually get a sharper edge with them, and I like my MTs scary sharp.
