I was wondering two things about bladeforums.com

1) it seems to me that almost every major manufacturer is represented here by a forum except benchmade. what's the deal? they won't allow it?

2) what are "forum knives" and where can i see what is for sale/offered?

thanks

1-Benchmade has their own forum on there site, maybe that’s enough for them I guess

2-Forum knives are knives made by the manufacture specially for a forum. If you go to the Balisong forum, there is a sticky with a link to there newest forum knife I believe.

I've always been surprised that Leatherman doesn't have a forum here.

I guess manufacturers just have to decide for themselves if the increased contact with customers is worth the time investment required.

Me too. There is a new member on the forums that is from Leatherman. He has only posted a couple times so far. I hope he sticks around.

It would be great to have someone from Leatherman visit the forums every now and then.

I emailed Leatherman once about how passarounds are being done on BF. They replied that they were not interested :(

Maybe that will change some day :)

I thought that BM had a forum here at one time, but decided to leave? I guess I could be mistaken though.

Well, Spyderco has one here and on their own site. Others do too I think. Swamprat has the SAME forum on their site that's here.

Maybe BM SHOULD have another forum here. They have quite a following in these parts.

I'd actually like to see more manufacturers' forums here.

Cold Steel opened a forum here, got overwhelmed with questions and advice and and and decided it was going to take too much time to keep up, so they shut it down. Very disappointing. They lost more friends by opening and closing than if they never came here at all.

REKAT had a forum here, which they closed amid some acrimony, and shortly afterward, went out of the knife business. That was a shame. They had a lot of interesting knives over the years. (I've still got a Sifu :))

A Bladeforums Sifu? I just found one and got it. I have a pocket hobbit and a carnivor and a cub. I love them all.

fishbulb and pahl,

I emailed them this same comment also, last year sometime, and pointed out that companies like Spyderco, Buck, and SOG build a very positive rapport with their customers this way. Even when we are whining about problems with their products...;)

LM responded that they monitor the forums sometimes and asked if there were any specific ones that they should be looking at. I should have asked them about getting their own forum here, but was swamped with work, and never got back to them. Maybe we should send an email to the gentleman who posted and see if he wants to set up his own forum. I have no clue what is involved.

I couldn't agree more. BM needs to have a forum as do Kershaw and United. OK, I'm kidding about United but BM and Kershaw should definitely come on board.

Sounds good to me :)

Has everyone seen this thread?

I would like to see a multi-tool forum or Leatherman forum get started.

When I said that BM has there own and thinks that is enough, I was referring to the Iron Fist style I have "Heard" they use to govern there forum and squash any rebel rousers ;)

Trane_Fan, You had me really confused when I read the first part of your post. WTF?? United?? :D

Hi Baddie,

do you have anything to proof the "iron fist"?

I´ve been aruond since a few month in the BM-forum, this forum and the german-speaking Messerforum.

If any of these forums is governed with an iron fist, than the Messerforum. Never seen threads closed so quickly if it might come to a hard discussion. No bashing, just my impression, keep visiting and posting them/there.

Sometimes i´ve been stumbling over posts here, wich are showing a leck of tolerance. Just when it comes to "EURO - TROLLS".

Towards the BM-forum i have to say, that there are many nices people taking part. I would consider them to be over 35 of age, settled, with good income, regarding the many pieces of BM-knives and their prices. It´s an open forum with people helping you forward as best they can, the very same as here. In some views it ´s less agressive, some call it boring, besauce people are so smart and polite. But i liked that. In some way i prefer it, because you find more specialized info around knife- handling, care and so on.

There truly is a diference between a manufactures forum and a general knife forum like this. Wich means, you will mostly find people with good experience on products on the manus forum. So if i am looking for widespread and objektive info on products, i would go on this board. This is as simple as it is logical.

Towards "goverment" i have to say, that Benchmade-administrators are very very discret, just the way of being polite. This may depend thereon, that if you got problems with the BM-knifes, there is an open door if you are going to mail them. If you are looking on my thread considering a chipping D2 blade, you see my problems. Result was, after mailing them, they send me a brand new knife without any costs, just because i am an out of country customer. What i want to say? Considering BM- Warr. Dept., there is no need for "rebels", for BM tries to do the best for their customers, even new knifes for free, just for accomodation. BTW, i didn´t pointed BM to my thread like Cliff Stamp adviced me.

So, if there are any proofs of a BM- forum-iron-fist-goverment, i would like to know.

Well I don't have the links but I definately remeber the following.

A couple of years ago someone posted a mildly negative post on the BM forum, the thread was then "removed" but infact the link was changed so that it was no longer visible. Some one bookmarked the link so you could actually view the thread to see that indeed it did exist and indeed was removed from the forum.

There was some discussion of that on bladeforums as well, as I recall some subsequent threads asking about the removed threads where removed too on the BM forum.

It seemed clear to me at least that they were only interested in people all saying how wonderful BM knives are and little else. I've never bothered with their forum since.

OK, it's starting to come back the late and esteemed Walt Welch posted something on their forums and got banned, along with some others I believe... maybe that was all the same incident, unsure.
