Newbie Questions

Hi everyone,

I am brand new to the knife world and have several questions that I hope someone could help me with. I recently came across a couple of custom knife art pieces on a website that I thought would make a great gift for my father. I know nothing about knives and neither does my father so how do I go about evaluating the price of the piece? Is it possible to negotiate with dealers on the internet? It appears that they have physical stores but I'm not in that region.

After reading the forum, I'm also interested in going to some custom knife shows but searching on google for Custom Knife Show NYC yielded only outdated results. Can someone point me to a site that lists custom knife shows in the NYC area?

There are a few dealers in NYC. Mastersmith, Paragon Sports... I forget the others.

Also, we have two knife shows yearly in the city. One is NYCKS which happens in November and another is ECCKS, which you just missed, in February. I highly recommend the shows. It's probably the best way to learn more about the customs and is a great place to pick up new knives, usually even directly from the makers. They are not as big as shows like Blade in Atlanta, but big enough to make them worthwhile for interested parties.

These are the only custom knife shows here in NY, as Carrot pointed out. Both shows happens once a year. If those sites only list the previous shows, just check back periodically as they will eventually be updated with information on the upcoming shows.
