Hi,

I'm new to Emerson knives (though I have my fair share of experience with Spyderco, Benchmade, and the higher end Kershaws)

I recently got this "ANIB" but pre-owned (private party) and the first thing I noticed was how "rough" it was to open. Not stiff, just not at all smooth like my BM, Spydes, and Kershaws.

I realize it is not an assisted model...

As I started doing a little more research, I came across the various "counterfeit" threads, here and elsewhere.

Holy C@@@!!!

Any of you with experience with SARK's can help me put my mind at ease (or give me confidence to bring it up with the seller? I always feel bad accusing someone of selling a counterfeit and then it turning out it wasn't, just my ignorance. I'd hate it if it happened to me...)

Thanks so much in advance!

There are enough elements "off" about the logo and text to worry me, but then I know fonts, wording, positioning on the blade, even logo design details, change and vary even during the same production period, on different models.

I have seen that very detailed page on another site comparing Commanders, and in certain of the hardware details - countersinking on the disk screw; the cut of the liner lock teeth; etc - all seem good.

Mainly the graphics, wording, location on blade, and how "rough" the opening is.

thats a 100% genuine Emerson SARK.

flush out the pivot with some gun oil and open and close it a few hundred times. It WILL smooth out.

I'm no expert but the markings look too crisp for a fake.

Bushman is right about lubing it. A lot of new knives have grit from the manufacturing process trapped around the pivot. I would disassemble and rub down all the parts with a Tuff-Cloth.

Blow it out with WD-40 and then lube it with something you like and you'll be fine.

That is indeed a real EKI. The action will always feel a bit rough at first, but after a week or two of use it will seat its self in nicely.:)

Thanks everyone, really appreciate the peace of mind from those who know better!

Cheers.
