I know I have to experiment, but wonder why I should pay over $100 for a wet 400 grit diamond belt when I can get a wet 400 grit silicon carbide for $3.00. Isn't 400 still 400 and each will give the same finish? And will a diamond belt last 30 times longer than the SC? I'm grinding stone for scales. Appreciate any feedback here or privately. Thanks ya'll

well if your just starting let me tell you how things can go. after you spend the hundred bucks on the diamond belt and then another fifty on another grit etc, etc! you might deside that you really dont like the stone handle or no one is ordering then. and you have a bunch of money tied up and no money to get some ceramic hogger belts for heavy steel removal.

To grind stones for scales isn't possible with silicon carbide belts. You need diamond coated tools to work stones, if it's not only the one pair of scales for a single knife.

Whoops, I just realized we were talking about grinding stone. I guess I did not read the original post thoroughly. Please disregard my previous post.
