Hi all!

I have been a closet bladeist for years, and decided to come out of the sheath when my wife got me a Cold Steel Code 4 for the holidays. This is a replacement for a cherished Case XX folder with a wood handle I had for 30+ years and mysteriously disappeared on a horseback ride a while ago :(

For NO logical, rational purpose, I have an urge for the Zero Tolerance Comat folder, for NO other reason than it is Gibb's knife, which is good'nuff reason for me. But, I am an egg, so I am perfectly willing to be talked out of this. Please do so, in fact!

I view this as a start of a terrible, terrible drain on my resources, as if guns weren't damaging my retirement savings enough...

Welcome to the forum! Its a great place to ask questions, learn, buy knives, and just look at other peoples knives. What is your favorite knife that you own at present?

What exact Zero tolerance knife are you looking at? "Combat Folder" is a general term used on retail sites like the Zon. It should have a model #like say 0350, 0200, 0300, 0801 etc. etc.

Welcome aboard!!! It may be an addictive hobby but it's the best damn online community there is!

Welcome aboard, hopefully you won't have to come out of retirement to feed the addiction!!!!!

Well, I said I was a newbie!

It looks like a Zero Tolerance 0300

Specifically, the knife Gibbs gave Vance when he was in the hospital. Gibbs flipped open a knife and stuck it point first i to a tray table, which Vance subsequently used to defeat an assassin.

Yes, I CAN be swayed by media!

Well, I lost my old companion Case XX folder, for which I can't find a replacement.

My wife, trying to assuage my loss, has given me a small Gerber folder with a rubberized handle which is great for everyday use, after I worked the action enough that I can actually open it. Irk is the ribber grips co e loose easily so I have to superglue the grips back on.

So then she got me a Cold Steel Code 4, which has seen less use, but is just plain cool.

I got a Buck folder, all wood and brass, at a small general store in Kentucky, the owner of which would NOT let me leave when I confided I didn't have a knife... This is the classic Buck folder that slips into a case and belt-worn, and is 30+ rears old...closer 40 now I guess..<gasp....>.

Then I got a Ka-Bar to stick on the gun belt, for no other reason that everyone needs a Ka-Bar if one has a gun belt...

So, it is time to expand this limited knife world view!

Chris Reeve (no, not superman) Knives makes the Sebenza. A $400+ folding knife. Many people here swear by it. While many others swear about it. It is a very polarizing knife.

Follow up question. Why don't you like carrying the Code 4?
If it's because it's too beefy. I doubt the 0300 will be worth it for you. It's fatter, longer, and weighs about double of the Code 4. The ZT 0350 Is a smaller (albeit still rather stout) and significantly less expensive version of the 0300.

I just can't push you into this hell, especially if you're already into guns.

....that said, the ZT sure is sweet, ins't it?. You already have a few pretty good knives. What stickymeat is trying to say is buy the Sebenza now and it will be mostly downhill from there financial-drain-wise. The Cold Steel is a decent knife. Keep it.

I love carrying the Code 4, but I work in an office in which the was a discussion about the corporate legality of my smaller Gerber. If I whip out my Code 4 to open boxes, I know I would have some "'splainin'" to do.

I just seem to have a yen to get a large combat/outdoor/utility folder, for the same reason I had the urge to get a .44 mag some years back. Everyone should have one. And, being on a farm, the may be some actual practical use for it...though I admit I so far have had little need to have a knife capable of gutting a mastedon....

The Chris Reeve knives are stunning....

I don't get rid of guns, I don't get rid of knives. I think I need to work up to the Sebenza.

But here is my twisted thought process about these high-end knives. Much like dropping $2000 on a custom 1911, I would mourn every scratch and deterioration of the blade, even though these knives and guns are MEANT to be used.

I can accept the loss of a $50 Cold Steel. The loss of a $400 Sebenza would be harder.

It was more of a joke, I would advise you not to get a sebenza at the start. It is good trying other brands and models out first, and from there you will appreciate the sebenza more (if you choose to get one) I could never imagine spending so much on a blade at first, just wait awhile and if you are still into knives you will start spending more and more haha My favorite zero tolerance knives are the hinder designs, like the 0550, 0560, 0566, 0562. Thats just me though.

Aha! So you are looking for some heavy duty bad-assery. Basically a tactical looking knife that can actually be used for practical purposes. Yes, the ZT 0300 fits the bill quite nicely.
Here are just a few other suggestions around that price range. All can be found on http://bladehq.com a BF dealer.

Yeah, I figgered this was a playful suggestion, but a good aspirational one, and I DO enjoy discovering top ends!

Thank you for the introduction to the Reeve! Awful durn purdy...my wife's mule would be thrilled to stomp such a fine piece of cutlery into the mud as I use it to cut bailing twine on the hay bale!
