Alright guys, im not a knife maker but after looking through some of the forums im thinking this is the best place to find some answers or guidance.

Last year while I was stationed in Korea a very nice guy gave me a Damascus Bowie knife free of charge. He simply said thanks for the service and called it even stevens...:D

Here is a picture of my blade. It is blade #5 in the photo...

Anyways, it doesnt take a genious to figure out the knife needs something...Its needs a fricken handle man!!! I want to keep this a classic looking piece, something pretty too look at and possibly scare someone if the need arise. Otherwise, this thing is going to end up on my mantle with some random dead animal head around it.

What im seeking from you guys is a little guidance on where I should take this. Who should I trust with the blade to make it into something im going to be proud to own. My budget here is around $45-50 for the scales if I need to buy them, and of course I will need someone to make it into a complete project.

With a budget of $50, you likely won't get a maker to touch it. Unless it's a good friend who's willing to work for lunch and a 6-pack, assuming you provide the handle material.

Sorry to pee in your cornflakes, but materials and shipping alone will eat up $50.

I think you misunderstood me...My budget for the scales alone is $50, I fully understand labor is all in what im willing to make it into and how far I want to take it. Im not going to say I have a budget for the labor for finishing the blade up, im fully expecting to pay more than $50 for the labor alone, at least I would hope a professional knife maker would charge more than that for all the time it takes to make the handle.

My apologies! I did misunderstand you. There are lots of makers who can do that for you, hopefully some will message you. I do that sort of work too but I'm pretty booked up for the next few weeks.

A little help on selecting the scales would be highly appreciated. Things I should look for and things I should stay away from.

Also if a knife maker could chime in and offer up services that would be great, I dont want to wait for my friend to get home from Korea. It would be the end of 2012 by the time I got this blade back in my hand and finished.

Teh,
I would suggest wrought iron for the guard and sambar stag for the scales. This would keep it classic and classy at the same time.

I like the wrought iron idea mentioned above, but instead of stag, I think some beautiful figured desert ironwood would be PERFECT :)

Sharpe,
I was looking at your site there and I like that sambar stag you have on a couple of your bowies. Your close to me too, maybe we can talk a little business and you can complete my mantle piece for me?
