Newbie stupie question!

I've heard stupid is forever, but ignorance is only temporary and curable, so maybe there's hope for me. Could somebody briefly explain (or simply direct me to a previous post, as I'm sure I'm probably re-tilling plowed ground) the main various locking mechanisms in use on folders today. Maybe a brief statement on each's relative merits (and if it's too difficult to comprehend just tell me a knife that uses it). I thought I knew most, but as I peruse these posts there's obviously some "new animals" out there. Don't intend to start a pissing contest either, just seeking enlightenment!
