I'm fairly new to the the site, but I'm a complete newbie CRK owner. (Thanks Silverstonev8 Silverstonev8 !) I look forward to many years of use of this knife. I welcome any recommendations (like "get the slip sheath!"?) and warnings ("whatever you do, don't start looking at the Umnumzaan!"). I have a bad feeling about this ending up like another bad habit. Like HFB, ammo, firearms, hunting gear... etc.

Warning: delete your profile and never come back here, your bank account will appreciate that. Lol

Awesome knife welcome to the club. I am sure members who know a lot more than me will give you a ton of advice. When I have carried my sebenza I just clipped it in my pocket. I also do that with my mnandi which is my edc.

Congratulations on your first CRK, the more you use it the more you’ll appreciate it. That will lead you to wonder what other CRK’s are like. Then you’ll get another one just to be sure. After that, you’ll want something that’s a little different than the plain jane which will send you spiraling down the rabbit hole if you’re not careful. Just saying.
I carry mine in the pocket sheath because I would be heartbroken if i lost one that was clipped to my pocket. I also like the way it wears in the sheath, and protects it from unwanted snail marks. So, yeah, if you work/play hard and might snag the clip, definitely get a pocket sheath. It’s better to have the knife sideways in your pocket, constantly turning it to the correct position than to be looking for it in a panic. Besides, when the damn thing gets cattywompus, it’s a reminder that ive still got it.

Thanks everyone. Slip sheath just ordered!

Huh I've never used on of the pocket sheaths, I've managed to bend a few pocket clips but sebenza always seem to stay in my pocket. Look you made me all paranoid now..

Ajack60 Ajack60 - I just got the sheath yesterday. Do you remove the clip to make it a better fit in the sheath?

My first CRK was a small Sebenza. I bought it because it was the cheaper than a large and thought I could make it work. I prefer the Large _______ over the small _______ in any of their offerings but I do wish I still had that small 21.

I fear that I will get the large too. Or the Umnumzaan. Or both...

I keep the clip attached and the lanyard/FOB, IMO, I like to keep a knife the same as it came from the maker. I’ve rarely taken a clip off any knife that comes with one. The FOB makes it easier to remove from the sheath. But, I know everyone’s different, so whatever works for you will be fine.
The sheath forms to the knife and will be easy to remove with or without the FOB or clip.

The double bevel system on the 31 is pretty good at keeping it secured in a pocket. I’d be far more worried about a sheath and knife falling out of the pocket entirely than one coming unclipped

Congratulations on your first CRK. I also started with my first CRK Small PJ 31 and for the first year just got it out and admired it, opened and closed it and really didn’t appreciate it for what it really is, a perfectly made pocket knife that is an absolute work horse. Now, it dominates my pocket and has kicked out some of the others that I spent years carrying(Benchmade, Spyderco, ZT). They still get some pocket time but I’m consistently reaching for either my small sebenza 31 or my large Inkosi Tanto. Get ready to spend some money!!!!!!!

Very good start! Carry them all, use them all, love them all.
These four knives have sat almost exclusively on my desk as very expensive fidget toys. I'm beginning to wonder if I need to cut back to one (or none), as I'm much more likely to clip on an old beat up ProTech. It doesn't help that I had to recently clean out my parents' house (lots of cool stuff - but there's a limit to how much cool stuff I can use and admire), and I'm reading "Essentialism"). I pulled them out today to take pictures and do a post on the B/S forum to list them, but after playing with them a bit, I might give it some more thought. But it seems like having 4 of them - for me - is overkill.

I bought a gently used small 21, which I knew would help me not to be too fussy about tossing it my pocket. Hasn’t left my pocket since. Kinda the same reason I bought a truck with 13k miles on it. Didn’t save much $ but I think I’d have left a brand new one parked in the garage with a cover on it.

They are a joy to look at and fondle, but using them to cut stuff is satisfying on a whole other level.

Maybe pick one, get someone to carry it for you for a week, and then you can enjoy it.

Did you buy a two identical smalls?

Sorry for the delay in replying. No, I purchased only one small - the 31. The other three were all large - Umzumzaan, 31 and Insingo. I'm parting with those other three and have sold the first and last yesterday and today, respectively. It's hard to part with them!
