Howdy folks, I just joined this forum as a newbie knife collector. I have a few knives in my collection, but there is one, which I inherited back in the 70's, that really stands out.

It is a hunting knife with a very interesting stamping on the blade. It reads, "XXX NAZI-R M.C." Perhaps it actually is from the Nazi German era? I think that may not be the case though, (it just seems too obvious) regardless of the blade stamping.

I have googled endlessly to learn something of its origins, but have not found a single match from anywhere. I am really curious to learn something about it. The original owner is long gone so that's out. So... perhaps someone here can help ID this knife?

Not German, not Nazi :). The style is Central/South American with German influence most likely. They use thin butt caps and thick white spacers a lot.

It looks like Nazi because the stamp is broken and the steel is pitted.

Hey tltt, you know your stuff! It originally belonged to a gentleman from Argentina, so you hit it right on with South American. Thanks for the reply.

Ah yes, I found it too after discovering it's NAZER not NAZI. Sheesh, what a creepy way for the stamping to get worn off. Btw, I just got your "Poland" pun, lol. My brain just auto-read it as "pole" the first time around. Very clever. Now I just hope nobody accuses me of looking for nazi porn! And now for my next knife...

It's worth noting that the two images you can find of this knife are different blade shapes. Also on one of the Spanish language sites the seller claims the knife he's listing was made in Chile. The other site, the owner says he found the knife at a market (he lovingly rescues old beat up knives).
