I have recently been considering taking my knife hobby more seriously and making a limited number of knives to sale. I like making knives but really don't care for making sheaths. Is there any place online that sells basic sheaths in standard lengths (5", 7", 9")? AND aren't too expensive??

I really like the sheath on my Becker Combat/Utility BK7 knife, does anyone know where I could buy sheaths like it??

Thanks for your help,
Eek

On the other hand, if your knives are worth grinding, they're worthy of a decent sheath. The ones you can buy from the knifemaker supply houses will make your knife look like some lightweight production knife. Just suck it up and get to sewing! :)

This may sound like horrible self promotion but my wife, Tess, makes custom sheaths for me and some other knifemakers (we don't feel like making sheaths either). I think they start around $20.00-$25.00. You can see her stuff on our site.

I do my own and some higher priced stuff
but My buddy Chris at tree stump leather
will fix you up
just send him a model and he'll do the rest
go her www.treestumpleather.com/
take a look.
.tell him Dan said to give you a deal.;)

I didn't like making sheaths eather, but to get a
sheath to meet my standard for quality, I had to
learn how so I did, now I enjoy the change of pace.
I also belive that the knife sheath combenation is
a enity, sole author ship, you take all the credit
for every thing. A fine hand made knife deserves a
fine hand made sheath, a package. Just my 2 bits

For sheath's along the lines of the one on the Becker, Blackhawk and Eagle both make similar nylon sheaths, But you will have to get a custom fitted Kydex or concealex liner for the nylon sheath.

Special Operations Equipment ( www.soegear.com ) makes sheaths along those lines for Strider knives, and I believe they do custom orders as well. They used to detail sheath work on their site, and infact I emailed them about custom work, sometimne last year (got a fast, polite, reply. But I ended up not needing a new sheath afterall). Was just at their site however, and didnt see sheath work listed, but I didnt look real good, so you might go look yourself, or drop them an email.

Good luck :)

[Edited to add more info]

Have you tried kydex? I started the thread awhile back where I was ready to kill whoever invented kydex, and anyone who helped them along the way ;) Everybody gave me some good advice and I tried a few more times and things turned out better. It does end up and make a pretty nice sheath, I've been carrying one for about a week now and like it alot. Might be worth taking a look at.
