I bought one. Several people offer this type knife. Who started it?

Is there a LaGriffe, like there is a Bowie? If so, who is he?

Is this a design from one knife maker, that others are copying? If so who designed it?

unicorn, welcome to Bladeforums.

The La Griffe (The Claw, in French) you've got is probably one manufactured by Emerson Knives. Nice knife. I'm wearing mine! For some reason, the website isn't loading right just now. Try it later and search for La Griffe there.

The original design was by Fred Perrin. He also makes knives himself, including a lot of different versions of the original. You can see a lot of Fred Perrin’s work at BladeArt.com Custom Knives.

Thanks for the answer.

My LaGriffe is by Perrin. I did not realize that it was his own design. It look different, but feels great in my hand.

Here is one of the "Tribal" versons made by Fred.

Thanks,

Ted

Ted,
There is a stamp in each of those disks - a butterfly with the initials F P underneath.
