Just wanted to drop by and look at all the threads on Al Mar knives. I was Al's mechanic. We had a auto shop next to his business back in the 80's and 90's. It was always fun going over to look at and buy his products. I also have a few AMK T-shirts, coats, vests, catalogs and even a AMK fishing vest....lol
I sure miss Al. He was a very great man.
Anyway here's a couple of pic's;

Man, I just LOVE that warrior. I wish someone would buy the rights and start producing it again.

I hear you and agree totally!
I managed 2 smoke shops in the Portland area then & a store in Salem that was half cutlery & half smoke shop. We sold Al's knives in all our stores. I was raising a family then and couldn't afford to buy knives like I wished I could. Al asked me one time if I had one of his knives. I said no, that I hadn't been able to afford one. He said, "It is time we changed that." He walked into the back room and came out with a black micarta Osprey. That is one of my most treasured knives. I also have a barbeque apron that he gave me. It had a character he drew that looks like some whacked out old SF guy, who is cooking a rat in a steel helmet. The caption says, "Death From Within." I always get funny looks from people when I wear it to barbeque. :D
Later on I was able to afford more knives and I used to get number 43 of the first 200 pre-production run. I have about a dozen of them. I have the first SERE fixed blade he came out with, and a gave a numbered fixed blades to each of my sons as they came of age. They still treasure the knifes. I have about 3 knives that Al personally gave me and won't part with them. He was one of a kind, a genuine nice guy!
I stopped at the Al Mar booth at the Portland Blade Show this year and talked to the guy in the booth. I wasn't impressed, but then Al Mar was a hard act to follow!
