Hello All,

I recently purchased a BLUR from wal-mart. It`s the tactical model with a tanto style blade. I love this knife, the fit, finish etc... The only concern i do have is the lack of a safety to prevent the blade from flying open. Is there a chance that it could accidently open while in my pocket? Any input will be greatly appreciated,Thanks

first, WELCOME to Bladeforums. second, not likely, as the blur doesnt have a flipper and it takes quite a bit to open a blur before the speedsafe kicks in anyway. you'll be fine. use it well!

when there is no safety on the knife, Kershaw makes you have to open it more before the AO kicks in. That said, it's unlikely but possible. The thumbstud could snag on something else as you pull it out. I just hate to say "never"

As OE has stated...you can't really say never, but my son and I own one
and unless something out of the extra ordinary happened...I can't see it
accidentally opening.

Thanks guys for the replies. I picked up a LEEK today for a good price. I was wondering why it was designed with a safety and the BLUR was not. Anyone know the answer?

I understand your concern as I myself have had a knife open when pulling something from my pocket and slice one of my fingers to the bone. But, like it has been said, there’s no real need for the safety. You have to really start the blade for the AO to kick in. I actually like that my Blur doesn’t have one. It you want to be 100% sure it won’t open in your pocket simply reverse the clip to tip up carry. It can’t open into the back of your pocket.

The reason is that the Leek takes less effort to open and it has a flipper
which could possibly catch on something causing it to open. It takes more
to get the AO to fire on the Blur. With that being said, I don't use the safety
on my Leeks and have never had one fire open in my pocket. That's not to say it
can't happen. If you feel more comfortable with the safety on...by all means
use it.

Oh yeah, Welcome to the forums and congrats on the 2 nice knives.
Hang around and we'll talk you into getting more. ;)
Although it seems your already doing that yourself. :D

Thanks again guys for your replies. I am impressed with the quality of both the leek and blur, seem like well built knives. My intrest in knives was rekindled only a month ago after a 15 year hiatus and i`ve already purchased 4 knives: BLUR, LEEK, cold steel gunsite2, syderco native and endura 4. My wife rolls her eyes when i play with em lol...
