Hi I am a newbie and since this is a community of knife enthusiast and people who actually work at the companies , i have some questions about the buck strider folder so here it goes, i hope you all can help.

I just bought the buck strider folder spear point BU-880SP with ATS-34 steel. The warranty on the knife says it does not cover unneccassry abuse, Is the buck strider made to be a hacking/chopping tool or is that unnecessary abuse. I just got it today and i can't wait to use it up in the woods wich includes chopping branches or small logs for firewood(it seems that it would do an o.k job if I grip towards the end of the handle) or placeing the knife on small logs and pounding the back of the blade with another stick to split it( i plane to see how far it can go with some exceptions to my fix blade knife). Another question i have is that the opening acion is pretty tight, any suggestion on how to loosen it up a bit or does that happen by just opening and closing it alot to break it in.
My last question is i bought the buck strider at gun show, and i do not know if it is a newer version(If it is not i still like mine just fine) ?because mine did not come the thumb studs on both sides or the reversible belt clip.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think this is a great knife. It seem to be built like a tank(wich i swhy i bought it) and i feel i made a great purchase.
Thanks
Mark

Hi, welcome to the forum.

You can adjust the pivot with a T8 or T10 Torx driver. You'll probably need two of them (one on each side), so you could use both a T8 and a T10. I believe that there's Loc-Tite in there, so you might have to heat it up first. I usually heat up a paperclip (held with pliers, of course :)) on the rangetop and touch it to the screw. Repeat as necessary. Once you've adjusted it, you'll probably have to reapply some Loc-Tite to keep it from loosening up on its own. Nail polish also works. Apply sparingly, very sparingly. I found this out the hard way. :)

Not sure about the warranty, but I'm quite certain that the knife will hold up under the uses that you described. Note, however, that this might slightly dent the stop pin and the liner. Then the liner will start moving over to the right. Mine is about halfway across, but seems to have settled there. The rate of wear greatly slows down once you've reached this point.

You have the older version of the Buck-Strider.
