After having to give up a decent no-name pocketknife to airport security a couple years back, I thought I'd buy a good EDC. I spent about a week or two on the internet and came across this site. After reading your reviews, I decided to buy a BM Grip, with the new 154 CM steel. With the black coating and partially serrated edge, this is one sweet knife.

Once I got the knife and used it for a while, I decided I "needed" something bigger for the times I'm out alone hiking, camping with the family, etc. Again, based on your comment, I opted for the Spyder Manix - the big one. Man, is this thing big! It locks upp with a loud CLICK!

I think I've been bit by the knife bug!

Thanks for your advise. I'll keep checking in every now and then.

Hey newbie, nice jump start on the knife hobby. You picked two winners, congrats.

Wanted to let everyone know how the knives are working out.

I work in an office, the minigrip fits in perfectly. No one really notices it. It has a nice feel, although a little small - barely fits my palm. I keep it in my pocket at home at night and have used it several times. I needed to cut thru some thinnish wire the otherr night. I reached for my wire cutter, but decided to see how the minigrip would do - like a hot knife through butter. I'm new to the whole one-handed opening thing, but the Axis lock makes it easy for a newbie like me to not cut themselves. If you want a small, unobtrusive clip knife, this is it.

On weekends I work around the house on my "honey do" list. That's when I carry the Manix. I'm really impressed with this knife! It opens up loud and solid. The blade is thick and tough. I love playing with it - opening and closing. I love the design - when you disengage the lock, again, a newbie such as myself doesn't get cut.

I exercise before work every day - rollerski, in-line skate, hike, whatever I feel like. The trails are isolated. I've often wondered what I would do if encountered by hard-asses; coyotes, aggressive stray dog,... I now carry the Manix with me. Maybe its a comfort item, but I feel better with it out alone on a trail.

I think I made the right choice on the combination of knives. The minigrip is great for during the week, the Manix is all the knife I need and more on the weekend.

Minigrip:
Plusses: Size (unobtrusive in an office environment), Axis lock
Minusses: Size (small for my hand)

Manix:
Plusses: Size (takes up your hand and feels great to hold); solid; built to take any abuse i could possibly give it.

Minusses: Size(uncomfortable in the pocket when driviing)
