I posted this same thread in the "other" knife forum, but this one is obviously more frequently surfed.

I find it hard to justify spending a "gun" amount of money on a knife. Their posts, and yours, are getting me thinking.

From a knife dealer, how much should I expect to pay for a new, plain, large Seb in BG42?
Is there a way for me to be certain it is BG and not ATS?
Are these available in black, either just the blade, or the whole knife? Can micara scales be affixed to the Ti?

I found out the new versions have eliminated the scallop cuts at the butt of the locking bar, correct? Have any of you had the lock "slip" or fail under normal use.

I appreciate your patience, as I am new to fine knives.

Welcome aboard Victor, there are set prices for the Sebenza's from CRK, you will pay 325.00 for a new lg. Benz. from a dealer. All Sebenza's made over the past few years use BG42. There is no black or micarta avail. The scallops or cut-outs are still there but not milled as deep on most of the new Sebenza's. Check out the CRK website at www.chrisreeve.com and I'm sure you'll be hearing from St. James, he's kinda the Guru on this stuff. Good Luck with your research.

P.S. you should also check out www.arizonacustomknives.com They are in Scottsdale, and if it is within 3 hours drive time, I would stop by for a visit. They are very reputable and have a great high-end selection including Chris Reeve.
