First,
My apologies if this is a bothersome question.

Second,
I have fallen to the influences of wanting to learn about hatchets & axes for utility and defense (I recently saw the movie, "The Patriot").

What hatchet or axe would be recommended as a "first" to buy? I have determined that two will need to be purchased, one for defense, one for utility.

I am an eager student, so please give any and all advice. :D

Thank you

You're in the right place...

You can start off with the Classic Ranger Spike Hawk. Durable and fun to throw...It won't be long until you will have to have a Vietnam Tachical or one of the Next Generation Ranger Hawks. Just wait until you handle one and hear that "Thunk"...:)

Just pop in this forum and ask away...

I was telling people in New York, if you buy ten we will come to your town and start a war for you.... :D

Welcome Aboard,

Melvin

For utility, the forged Rogers Ranger Spike hawk (if you want something that hits like a truck or you really need a hammer poll get the Light Infantry). For defense . . . If the longer handle doesn't cause problems get the NG Ranger, otherwise get the Vietnam Tactical. Either of those, of course, is absolutely excellent- I like the light weight and reach of the NG, but the head design of the Vietnam is so elegant and functional you can't go wrong either way.
