Newbie

The photos aren't accessible through those links. Yahoo is notorious about not allowing linking to fotos hosted by them.

There are a couple free sites that allow linking without passwords and stuff. Village Photos is one, I believe.

email me the pictures and I'll put them up for you. I'll take them down after a week or so........
Looking forward to seeing the work ;)
WHat steel was used?

looking at your tools it looks a lot like what i have available to me.
my friend and i are hoping to make a knife or two once spring hits, but we dont have any fancy tools..just a lot of imagination.
it'll be nice to see how a fellow "newbie" starts off =D

Hey that is looking good! I made my first knife exactly the same way. Keep it up and you'll never get away... :D

looks good! way better than my first. I’m so jealous, because I still haven’t gotten the chance to do a hamon. how did you attach the handle?

the handle is full tang with 1/2'' holes drilled through, the slabs are 1/8'' hardened birch.
epoxied on with 2 ton epoxy.(the hole in the tang should let the epoxy bond through).

Looks real good from what I can see, the monitars out here on the rig I'm on show everything a little on the dark side so I can't see it real well. I do like the overall shape and how you left the file teeth on, it adds personality.

I like way the handle looks, but I learned a long time ago that if the tang is thin enough to flex even a little it can break the epoxy bond and come loose. Not a problem if the tang is left thick and won't flex. One way is to drill a little into the underside of the handle to make epoxy rivits, still not as strong as pins or loveless bolts though.

Now go make anouther!
