Hello all, I've been poking around this forum and Emerson's site for a few months and just came into possession of my first Emerson, a Mini CQC-7. I think what sold me was the ergos, the wave, and ultimately the standard screws. Many's the knife I've had develop wiggle in the blade, and torx screws are a pain to adjust. My eternal gratitude to Ernest Emerson for using normal, flat and phillips head screws that are convenient for your average joe with a keychain screwdriver to adjust. It's the people's solution.

I do have some questions, though. What is the spacer between the liners at the butt end made of? Is it G10 like the slabs or some kind of plastic? Also, why don't the phillips screws that hold the liners in place line up across the handles? There are two on each side, all of which appear to penetrate the spacer, but they don't line up with each other. Love the knife, looking forward to abusing it.

Congrats on the mini-7, that was my first EKI too.:)

The spacer is apparantly made of G-10 or a very similar epoxiglass laminate material. (I seem to remember reading it wasn't actually G-10).

The screw set up is staggered because the screws go through the liner (and spacer) on their side and screw into the liner on the other side. It's not like a fixed blade where you can just tap one hole and use a screw on either side. The spacer on all Emersons "floats" and has no thread so it does nothing as far as holding the screws in.

Thanks for the info. I'm kind of a nerd for the finer points of knife design. I read somewhere that even the V ground Emerson blades have chisel ground edges. Is that true? What kind of grind is used on the A100? That's another model I have my eye on. And the CQC-10. My bank account is begin to tremble in fear.

Yup, the V ground blades only have the edge bevel on one side, some folks think of that as a chisel grind some don't. I suppose in a way it is but IMO a chisel grind has to be ground on only one side and totally flat on the other. Like the CQC-7b, Kerambits, La Griffes and one or two others.

The A100 and CQC-10 both have a V grind with the single edge bevel, as do most of the EKIs actually.
