I have a small classic and small regular on their way to me from a trade. I already have a micarta large and small classic, and carry them on occassion. These newbies are users, not in bad shape, but users. I got the micartas specifically so that I would carry them. I tried that for a while, too afraid I might hurt them (don't even think about the L word :D).

Both are great. I prefer the blade shape of the regular over the classic, but would keep the classic handle. I was going to keep one and trade the other, I think I will keep both. EDCing the regular today.

Is it true that flicking the Sebenza open can void the warrenty because they consider it "abuse"? Because I'm presented with situations frequently where I need my knife immediatly. I currently carry a Benchmade 520 for EDC, but am going to buy either a Strider SMF or Large Micarta Sebenza soon for a new EDC. I don't wanna void the warrenty on such a great knife simply because I needed it quickly.

I don't understand this at all.

It takes about an even second to deploy the knife normally. More like 1.5 - 2 seconds to deploy is slowly. Maybe .75 seconds to "flick" it.

What could you possibly be doing with a knife where a quarter or a third of a second would be an issue?

Maybe you should just carry a fixed blade. That not only eliminates the actuation time, it also eliminates any potential failure of the actuation process, and all of the associated wear.

Plus they aren't that easy to flick. Flicking per se won't void the warranty but if you do it over and over it might. You're a lot better off just opening it the manual way. Silent those micarta inlays are great for EDC!;):thumbup:

Absolutley. Any one-handed thumb flicking that results in the knife
locking open will void the warranty. CRK currently uses hidden cameras
world-wide with face-recognition software that links any abusers to their
registered user database and automatically voids said abusers' warranties.

Seriously, I own a properly tuned large reg. Seb. It thumb-flicks open
one-handed on par with my tuned BM 710, but not as easy as my BM 520
Presidio or my BM 551 Griptilian. The Lg. reg. Seb is built like a tank,
the blade stop pin is twice as big as the BM 710. If my Seb ever fails
from one-handed opening the warranty will be be the least of my problems..
IMHO the Seb is built for a lifetime of hard work, and I use it that way.

Sorry, I wasn't sure how fast you could open the knife normally. In all the reviews I have watched on it, they always open the knife very slowly. 1 second flat is just fine for the applications I use my knives for.

What I'm actually looking at right now is the Chris Reeve Umnumzaan. I've heard that it's actually a step up from a Sebenza (if that's possible!). The 3.6 inch (I think) blade seems to be a pretty good size for me. I have some rather large hands, and some small knives just aren't comfortable to have as my main EDCs.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Umnumzaan?

My recommendation is that you find a way to handle both knives before deciding. So, friends/shows/storefront/pass-around/maybe meet someone on here, etc.

Nothing like getting it first-hand.
