Hello Bladeforums-

Really glad to be here. I've been lurking for a bit now and joined a few days ago. This is an exciting time for me as I am finally rebuilding my knife collection after it was sadly stolen about a year ago. I just received my first new knife to start the collection (an Extrema Ratio BF3) pictured below with my favorite firearm in my othercollection. My former blade lineup consisted mainly of Microtech automatics and a couple custom/semi-custom folder knives that were gifts.

I have not placed a new order for an automatic, but another Extrema Ratio, (the Nemesis) which should be arriving soon, as well as an ER Fulcrum full-size fixed blade. I also had the pleasure of speaking to Kathy at Crusader Forge this morning! And have begun the long (very long!) process of having a titanium FIFP folder made! I would not have discovered these new (to me) brands without this forum. So I want to say: Thank you so much for your deep insight into the world of knives. I had forgotten how much I truly love them!

I didn't know where to post this other than in this section as I have 3 photos, an introduction and mini review. Please correct me and/or move this post to the appropriate section if need be.

Initial impressions on the Extrema Ratio BF3/Dark Talon below:

-Arrived with a very sharp flat grind blade w/ uniform edge; brand new in box with papers.
-Zero blade play. I mean Zero. Tight like the lockup on a Colt Python!
-The black (I believe some sort of Milspec burnished coating?) seems durable and oil resistant. It does not soak up the oil off my hands like some of my previous boron/black finished blades.
-The Aluminium grip/handle is also tougher than expected. It's definitely not a dark, matte grey. It's true black and doesn't seem as prone to scratches as the finish on my old Microtech Halo 2. Before receiving the BF3 I was concerned about the durability of this black (anodised?) finish.
-The blade is completely centred in when closed.
-It is not a "flipper", but opens smoothly and with a confident tension.
-The low ride pocket clip is extremely tight! It will need some breaking in. But I think on a new knife tighter is better.
-Though the thumb studs ride low, this does not hinder easy/quick opening.
-This is a long but slender knife. I have relatively large hands and was concerned this knife would lack the girth/beefiness I may need to procure a solid purchase on it; but this is not a problem for its intended light/pocket carry use. It is comfortable and easy to wield.
-There is a nice positive click when both the blade locks into the open position, as well as when shutting closed.

Here are specs from the official ER website:

WEIGHT: g 125
BLADE LENGTH: mm 120
TOTAL LENGTH: mm 270
BLADE THICKNESS (MAIN BLADE): mm 3
BLADE STEEL: BOHELER N690 (58HRC)
HANDLE MATERIAL: ANTICORODAL
SERRATION ON THE BLADE: NO
BLADE LOCKING SYSTEM : LINER LOCK
SAFETY LOCK :NO
FINISHING AND COATING:
-HANDLE: ANODIZED
-BLADE: BURNISHED

All in all, I am very pleased with the BF3 being the first knife in my new collection!

I hope this attempt at a review may help some of you considering this model Extrema Ratio.

Note: please let me know if these images do not show up for you. I am posting via "Instagram" and have not used this for hosting images on a forum before.

Welcome to Bladeforums Will:)!I don't believe I've seen that model before, looks interesting.

Grim- Thank you! It's nice to be here. It's a really comfortable knife to carry. Despite being a long knife closed, it's very light weight and not in the least cumbersome. And the pocket clip provides a very low ride. Absolutely none of the knife itself shows; only the clip is visible. It's a good choice if you want something a little different! I was attracted to its very streamlined aesthetic. Anyway, thanks again for the welcome!

I look forward to delving deeper into the forum.
