I don't know if anyone has purchased a new tomahawk this year or not. I purchased a Viking model recently, and had to wait for a new one as they were back ordered.

I was surprised when it showed up to say the least. The quality of the work has gone up. The edge was straight and aligned with the eye. The eye itself was the most notable improvement, clean gentle taper with marked improvement over the ones from two years ago. I just thought I would let folks know, I only had to strip the paint and trim the flare of the hickory haft to get a well set hawk on haft.

Your mileage may vary, but this was much much better than my last two. Maybe there was some truth to the "new forging facility" for C.S.

i got a trail hawk (2 summers ago) that took forever to get off the haft with the results of some big scratches... then this fall I purchased a Pipe hawk that was really good, straight and really good fit.

I had the same experience with getting one off. It took a big hammer and some big swings which ended up taking big chunks out of the wood.

Interesting. I just got in a Trail Hawk (as in yesterday) and had to sand the haft quite a bit to even get the head off. Took a bit of work sanding the haft then beveling and cleaning up the eye but I now have a good tight fit without needing the set screw. Maybe the difference is in the other hawks. This one came directly from Cold Steel (work for a wholesaler and special ordered it in).

Even with the required work I love me some CS hawks.
