I haven't been around long enough to have seen the release of the Ratweilers, either one:grumpy:. I noticed the more coveted one has the rounded slabs with lighter micarta, I'm assuming these were from the original release? Was there any difference in the two? I have two of the flat slabbed Ratweilers, and aside from being sterile with different slabs I don't see any other differences. Are both zone hardened? And lastly from those that have handled or own both, which do you prefer?

Thank You in advance for any information.:D

I don't have either but it was the original Ratweiler what drew me into the Bussekin fray. I still don't have one.

Both the 'weilers were differentially hardened; the latter version had a drop or spear point and no sub-hilt ridge, bump, or whatever it's called. Both were of course SR-101. The slabs on the original ratweiler look a bit more photogenic to me.

Hi, New guy here.

I have been wondering the same thing and after seeing a ratweiler and hearing about them I have been wanting one badly. They seemed to have developed an almost cult following

AFAIK, the only difference is the scales...the first gen. RW had a more rounded handle slab, which some guys prefer to the flat slabs that came later.

The "old school" originals were rounded and had a great look to them; that's the only difference.

Ok, that about sums that up. Thanks.

If its just aesthetics, than I personally see no need for a third. The handles on my flat ones are very comfortable as opposed to the extremely comfortable ones found on the older style. I will make due... I guess.:D

I only own one Swamp Rat knife, it's an "original" release Ratweiler. However, I did stay in a Holiday Inn last night:) I like the 'original' release grip shape it was definately the one of the reasons I bought this particular knife. However, performance reviews from extreme users sealed the deal. The knife has a reputation of being indestructable, I haven't had the chance to test that reputation, yet, though I have had extreme hard-use knives in the past and the Ratweiler has all of the attributes those knives possessed, plus more. Normally, I like drop points, but in the case of the Chopweiler the blade shape didn't do it for me, I much prefer the clip-point of the 'original' Ratweiler.
