Conceived from a Wally World for $25 :D

Excellent knife. Score! Congratulations.

I really like the crosshatch grip texturing on the handle, the jimping on the heal of the blade and the pointy blade shape with lots of belly.

It looks like it would be easy to open one-handed with the thumbhole.

Thank you for the great photo.

Thanks Oregon- For me, the thumbhole could be slightly larger, my thumb slips a little when opening. Or maybe I just got a big thumb and just need to get used to it :D

It's the 181 Odyssey, for some reason tho, I can't seem to find it on the Buck website. An older style maybe?

Cool knife! Great price point too. Its the newest model. I believe only for wal mart though. That may be why its not up on the website. Either that or they are just behind.

I think it's a paperstone handle. My Wally World has them in the display, don't know if they have them in stock as there is never anyone manning the counter to ask.

The original 181 was last in the Buck catalog in 2003 along with the 186. In 2005 they were both gone. I believe that yours is a run made exclusively for WalMart. It isn't a left over old model, because it has the new shield in the handle.

Sithus- Yes, it's the paperstone handle, and I have the same problem with finding anyone to man the counters at our wally world too! Then to make matters worse, they look at you like you've just inconvenienced them :D

Plumberdv- Thanks for the info! Knives and magazines are the only reason I go to Walmart. I'm curious, to your knowledge, are the "made for walmart" Bucks as well built as any other similar model Buck? Thanks!

I know that the 110's, 119's are the same as you get anywhere else. I can't say for certain about knives that are made exclusively for them, but I do find it VERY hard to believe that Buck would put their reputation at risk by making a lower quality product just for sale by the discount stores.;)

I know that some manufacturer's (Abu Garcia for one) produced a line of fishing reels that were Walmart exclusives. Externally they looked the same, but they had cheaper internals to get the cost down. I just don't see Buck doing something like that.

The 110's, 119's etc at wallys are the exact same build as you get directly from the Buck site. As for the wally only models, I agree with Plum. Buck doesnt make seconds, esp for a monster retailer like wally. They put the same 4ever warranty on them as they do every other Buck. Even the imported Bucks like the 371 and 373 found at the mart are held to Bucks quality standards and carry the 4ever warranty.

Thanks Plumber & Fritz, I was hoping that's what you would say. I have never had a cheap feeling Buck knife, and this one seems just as sturdy as all the rest. I have to say I really think Buck gives you the best bang for the buck (pun intended) :D (with maybe Kershaw a close second)
