Hi everyone,

My name is Judy Yoon; I'm the new apprentice at Fiddleback Forge. I started apprenticing last week and finished my first knife at Fiddleback this week! It's been exciting working with the great guys here and I'm looking forward to learning so much more.
So I guess I should let you all know a little about myself... I studied Industrial Design and graduated in 2012. Soon after graduation, I moved to New York and worked for a bit before moving back down to Georgia. I've been interested in knives for quite a while and wanted to try my hand at making them, so I got in contact with Andy through Paul Brach, who is also a local knifemaker. Paul taught me a bit about knifemaking before sending me over to Fiddleback Forge. And so, here I am!
Thank you Andy and Dylan for taking me under your wing(s?)! I'm happy to have such amazing people helping me out. It's going to be a lot of fun!!
Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

Welcome Judy! You're working with two of the best!

That is a nice little knife. That looks like a great EDC package. I like the simplicity of the handle. It looks comfortable and very user friendly. Nice job!!

Judy - if you ever want to learn the leather side - shoot me a line. A drive to Houston for a few days would get us a long way to understanding the basics.

Good luck.

Welcome aboard Judy. I think you're going to be a great knifemaker.

Judy,

Welcome!

Very nice, simple, contemporary look in your knife. I love when a design appears simple, yet is in reality, complex. Simple, yet elegant. Modernism. If Verner Panton made a knife, I imagine it would have a similar spirit to your design.

Hi Judy,

Welcome aboard! How neat of an opportunity you have and I wish you the best! :)

Hi Judy. Great knife; nice grinds and lines. You should make a great apprentice

Congrats! What a great career you've started. Very nice 1st knife you've made as well! Looking forward to seeing more.

I have had the pleasure of handling some of Paul's work, and owning some of it. I have handled and used a good bit of Andy's work in the field, one on my belt now, and another laying on my desk as I type. I have handled a good bit of Dylan's work, and I pack one of his O-575s when I head into the deeper woods. The amount of knowledge and raw talent around you there is amazing. Make sure you take full advantage of it, soak in as much as you can, then apply it to your own thoughts and creativity. I like your thinking so far, I expect to see some great work from you in the future.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I’ll be sure to keep you all updated with what I’m working on next

Judy,
Awesome first knife! I believe I first saw it as a sketch in your book. One of the most satisfying things about knifemaking is being able to start with a blank piece of paper and turn it into a finished blade. It is great to see that you have done that...and in fine fashion.

Looking forward to seeing you again soon!

Damn Andy, you might have a prodigy on your hands. Thats a kick ass knife!

Two. Adam is certainly a prodigy. No way I'll be able to keep up with these two. They'll be better knifemakers than me. You can bet the farm on that.

Hi Judy. Great knife; nice grinds and lines. You should make a great apprentice

Yea. Those are convex sabergrinds right out of the shoot. Adam did that too. Damon as well. First try, nailed it. That took me 300 knives to get right and even took the great Dylan Fletcher a dozen or so to nail!!!

I remember the first one I did. Ended up full height convex since the saber height ended up slightly different:o
