I've recently gotten on a bowie kick, i.e. a Hossom Ranger, a Lance Kelly California Bowie and my newest acquisition, a 1965 stag Bagwell Bowie. Even though its an early Bagwell and quite a bit different from his newer ones, this knife is simply amazing in the fit/finish, balance and the little things that aren't noticed right away, like the butt cap conforming to the stag instead of carving the stag to fit the butt cap. Overall an amazing knife.

I wish the picture was larger so that I could get a better look. It sure is different than what Bill is doing these days, but I agree, it sure does look well made.

Hot Damn!!! You always come up with really good $**T.
BTW I hope all is well with you and that your holidays are good.

That is really cool. How do you know it is a 1965 Bagwell? For awhile there around 70-72' he used a simple B stamp and then later the arched stamp like that which is on your blade. I dont know how he stamped them before 1970.

I am asking this for my own education. My intial guess would be that the knife is mid to late 70's

I'm fairly certain of the date based on the paperwork from the original owner stating when and where he bought it. I know it could be phoney, but its all I've got to base it on and looks like its authentic (a page from a journal with a polaroid snapshot of the knife).

Bagwell is one of the bowie masters. Doesnt just make a shape, makes the whole package, perfectly balanced in your hand, they almost come alive. Does it have one of his stud sheaths? Any chance of a pic?
Thanks

Dave, unfortunately no sheath. That early he may of not even been making sheaths, I don't know. You wouldn't be interested in making one for it, would you?

I would say judging by the stamp and the over fit and finish that the knife is late 70's. Earlier knives with older stamps by Bagwell are somewhat rustic looking...and yours looks too nice to be that early.

That is a really nice Bowie!

That one doesn't even "follow his rules" yet. From the looks of it - could I be wrong - could it be stainless ? I am a fan of Bagwell concepts when it comes to Bowies - any info will do nicely in my archives... Jason.
