My newest completed project (yes, there are many more in various stages lying around, or in my head) is a knife holder to be used for working on knives. I had seen other designs at Blade and other knife shows, but wated something a little different. I had most of the parts/materials lying around, so I designed it (as I was making it) and finished it today. It is made to fit the thickest handles (Magnum Fusions) or the thinnest blades and has full length rubber pads to protect and grip the knife. It is 12" long on the inside, but could put longer knives in it as it is built stout and they could just hang out. The base swivels so you can hang it out over the side of a bench and bring it back in so it is out of the way. The red square blade holder rotates 360 degrees so you can have the blade or handle at any angle to work on it, just pull the long aluminum lever on the side down, rotate to where you want, then push it back up to lock it. The one picture shows me using the Magnum sharpener on a SHBM.

That is a great idea!

What keeps the device steady?

I just have the knife holder sitting on the wall outside, so I could have some good light, it will be mounted with bolts on the bench when I really use it.

With a spring-loaded trigger mechanism, thatwould make a great Busse Burglar Detector.

When they screamed out in pain, they would be detected...

Damn, that's sweet!! Are you a mechanical engineer?

If not you should look into it, I think that you would enjoy it.

Damn Tim! What else you got building in that head of yours? I envy the people who can bring their ideas to realities.

Thanks for the complements, I need to work with my hands and design/fabricate metal projects to keep my sanity. I think most people don't give themselves enough credit on what they can do. I like to think of myself as a "Jack of all trades, master of none", meaning, I am always looking for new experiences to take on. The more crafts you learn, the more you can build on that and do more. Now I'll admit, having the right tools helps alot, I have a milling machine, metal lathe, welders, band saw and more, but you have to start somewhere. The first knifemaker's shop I visited, I was amazed at how little he had as far as equipment for the quality of work he did, he had alot of talent. Now I am also not saying that just because you try something that you are going to be a expert, but practice will make you better!

:D

very nice randucci :D

i can see where that would be a very versatile contraption to have for holding a blade for sharpening, filing, grinding, ect.

Looks every bit as solid as the knife it is holding. Great design with simple adjustments that lock up easy. Maybe you could sell a few of these. good luck, keep fabricating your designs and thanks for sharing.
