Hi All,

Here is my latest re-handle. I know it looks alot like the last but there are some pretty good changes. The handles are 303 stainless and this one has a latch. The handle pins are recessed into the handles and the tang pin is conventional (not a roll pin). It has a much better feel and finish than my first one. Probably not too exciting after hearing Benchmade's latest news but hey....

That's very nice and clean work....... If you aren't careful, people are going to start asking you to take orders! :D

Agent-A1: Yes, I think the latch up just right compared to others I've felt. It's nice and firm but you don't have to strain to close it. I don't think you could ever wear this one out. That was the one think that I really took my time on. The spacing and depth of the tang pin recesses in the handles are probably the hardest part. You have to wait until the very end to cut them and if you go too deep you really can't fix it. Pretty soon I think I'll try doing this for others. I want to get my technique down and have a good repeatable process before I start taking money for them. The next one I post will have inserts of purpleheart wood or yellowheart wood. I'm getting bored with holes.

Bat and Dawkind: Thanks again.

Eric, Your handles are Dangerously gorgus ....TRUELY YOU ARE WHAT YOU SWING...OCYRUS

I can vouch for Eric's work on this one, because I got to swing it the other day. The weight & balance are very good. The thickness of the handles are just the right size too. The polish of the handles makes it look good & it spins fluidly in your hand. I'm not totally against holes, because there's a couple of maneuvers that I use the first hole near the blade end for. I think countersunk holes would look better, but that's more work too. Can't wait to see the next one!
Keep up the good work Eric!

Mike

Ok, since Dawkind brought it up...

How much would you charge for one of these beauties?

Are you supplying the blade or am I? I've been thinking of what to charge based on the time it takes me to complete one and my materials. I am getting faster with practice so we'll have to see.

.....you should be proud of your efforts! I never did have one turn out so nice.:( Keep up the great work and put me on your list when you're ready to make up a couple!;)

Here's a question from a different angle....

How about a price for a set pre-mfg'ed to mate with a Jag blade...you supply the handles and pins and any extra needed parts, and your buyer does their own assembly.

Also, does your latch have a built in stop?

That's sure a real good lookin' and obvious improvment. Nice work Bud!

I drill out the blade holes to 3/16" so I can use larger pins that won't wear out. It isn't very easy because the blade is hardened and you need a carbide bit to do it. If I can come up with a different system for pinning the handles to the blade then a kit would be very possible.

Do you mean a latch gate? Yes it does.

Thanks everyone for the positive responses. :D

I would like to see a version with the holes countersunk.., but heck..those handles are REALLY NICE!! The larger pins is also a great idea!! I think you have a new career! :p

That is fantastic work Mer! I've got a 239 blade, what would be the damage if I sent it to you and had you assemble it? Also, how long does it take to finish after machining. Either way I am totally interested if you are, just give me a figure and an e-mail.
