Got a Hults Bruk head through Kajiji from Quebec. The handle came from Canadian Tire. It's a nice bit of ash, but it was so bulky, it took a long time to shave it down to something decent. I still have to re-stitch the cover, but that's a whole new bit of learning. This one may be a keeper.

Good job. Looks suspiciously like Hickory to me. Have never come across Ash axe handles (unless they're imported from Europe) before. Was there no swell at the butt end when you bought this haft?

That's a nice looking edge for the profile. I'll bet it bites pretty nicely.

300Six. There was a swell at the butt end, but I took it off. I modelled it after a Wetterlings haft. The thing had a TON of wood on it.
Chuxwan. Good eye! I went back to the Canadian Tire website and looked it up. You are right, it is hickory, not ash. My mistake. It is a maple wedge. I toyed with using a steel wedge, but like the look of the wood only.
I can't wait to try it out.
