Hey Ron,

Can you tell me which version of the Tsunami is the newest one? I've seen 2 versions for sale. One with a steel finger-guard, one without.

Also, what exactly are the rub-strips? I keep hearing about them in the sheaths. What are material are they? Apparently all my old SOG sheaths didn't have them so I've never seen them before.

Thanks again.

Hi DoggyKnife,

The Tsunami with the slightly elongated lower guard is the current model and has been in production for about 2-3 years. The picture found on this page of our website is the older style (without the guard). Our current model is pictured below and clearly shows the elongated guard (this picture is courtesy of BladeForum's fine host and sponsor, OneStopKnifeShop.com).

For SOG, the "rub strip" is a soft material residing inside the sheath which reduces blade rattle and excessive wear of a blade’s coating. It is about 1/4" wide, resides on the front side of the sheath (inside the sheath, of course), and is made of a spongy/corky material.

As always, I hope this has been helpful. Let me know if you have further questions.

Wow Ron, your dish out replies lighting fast  . Seems like you monitor this forum without blinking 24 hours a day. Very impressive.

One more question if you don't mind. When did SOG start implementing the "rub strip" in the kydex sheaths? My old Sealpup kydex sheath was one of the originals when SOG started making kydex sheaths and didn't have the "rub strip" if I remember correctly.

The "rub strip" sounds like something I'd like. Hopefully the mini-tsunami I just ordered will come with a kydex sheath with the "rub strip". I just can't seem to keep people from swiping my SOGs for some reason. Both my old Goverment and old Mini-tsunami were "borrowed" years ago and I can't seem to get the back!

All we need now is a Tsunami in BG-42, Rc-60, and with no serrations!

Oh yeah!

I'd buy a couple of those!
... and please without the longer guard.

To bad the Tsunami is discontinued. It's one of my favorite knives. An upgrade in steel and no serrations would be cool. A longer version would be cool too.
