Here is a custom order I just finished today, the 7″ blade is made of 5160. The handle is made of African Blackwood with German Silver fittings. This knife is just like my personal carry knife except for the handle material. The sheath is my first to be tooled and carved.

Thanks for looking.:)

Tell me what you think.

Super, Kyle. Very clean, like the recurve blade. Should have a happy client with that one. Your sheath making is coming along nicely. Great package.

:thumbup:Exceptional work Kyle! I think you have a very promising bladesmithing career ahead of you. The sheath is well done as well:cool:

I Believe this piece has the best overall flow and blade/handle symmetry of your pieces I have seen.

The clip/recurve/choil work together here to create a great blade profile. Don't like the blackwood though. Bet that handle is conferable.

Very nice. I bet a bigger version of that blade would work great on a fighter.

Kyle's knife, he can call it what he wants, but it has a 7" blade with that overall blade/handle profile? It must be 12" + OAL?

It's much more a fighter than a hunter to me as is.

Sheesh, Jones....picky, picky.......what do you know? You only have one knife, the Hendrickson, that has wood of any kind on it and it still has some of the same handle material as the rest of your knives........stuff that was previously found on the head, in the mouth or in the leg of some stanky, furry critter:D
As for the knife, nice work, young man:thumbup:

Actually I like wood handles very much. Ironwood, Cocobolo, Olivewood just to name a few that make incredible handles IMO. Just find Blackwood lifeless and drab. :thumbdn:
The only purpose I find it useful is for toning down a highly embellished knife.

Different strokes for different folks.

It has a VERY clean look and I like the blade shape. Also, the sheath looks good too.

Blackwood is kind of plain but it looks great with inlays.

Good job Kyle, see ya @ blade

I will not be at Blade this year, but next year I will be and I'll be going for my JS stamp.

The overall length is 11 3/4" long and it feels very good in the hand.

The only reason that I would not consider it a fighter is the guard. To me a fighter guard should be double like the below picture.

I like this stile of knife very much so I am planing on making one for my five knives to be judged at Atlanta. I think I will use Desert Ironwood or some kind of Ivory.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I second the question of whether to call this a hunter. Maybe if you are hunting zombies. Or walruses.

I personally love the handle shape and material, but the handle looks overly long to me.

Ah, but you forget blackwood's two most important roles.
1. A replacement for ebony that doesn't crack, chip or splinter while you are working with it
and
2. A replacement for the evil Micarta when a knife handle must be black:D

I think that the stuff looks good. would you say that jet black color is only good when being used to tone down an otherwise highly embellished Stenway grand piano? lol

That may be the best reason to use it. ;) :)

Don't know much about Stenways, more of a pound the drum type guy. ;):D

Respect other's love for Blackwood, just a personnel preference, or lack of preference rather.

As I said Kyle, it's your knife. You can call it a butter knife if you want, as long you call it a beautiful butter knife. ;)
