I was browsing around for a good multitool to fit my needs, and after a lot of reading (mostly on this site, but also candlepowerforums), I finally settled on the Victorinox Spirit Plus.

It arrived on Wednesday.

Since then it's seen daily use on a construction site for odd little tasks, and it's never let me down. Even one awfully stripped screw (we had to cut into the head with a hacksaw to create a groove for a flathead screwdriver) that another guy tried to get out with his Gerber (the thinner metal of the screwdriver on his Gerber literally bent away under the force required) proved no problem.

And all off of Amazon for less than the price of a top of the line Leatherman Juice!

Thank you Victorinox. I'll never buy another brand again!

Right on, another Vic convert.

I was given the Spirit as a gift and am having a hard time finding the corkscrew and other accessories to be purchased separately. Any suggestions?

Pydpiper,

I'm not sure just what you mean by wow-factor, but I rate the spirit plus ahead of leatherman in looks as well. I had an old-style wave, and this completely blows it out of the water. It simply is worth it.

By wow factor I mean when you look at the tool it doesn't scream "functionality".
I found it very difficult to separate the Spirit from the standard victorinox swisstool while looking on the internet. I do see however that the spirit has a butterfly shape while closed, while the swiss tool is very hard to differentiate from the $5 multi tools available everywhere.
I am speaking only of the cosmetics of it in it's closed position, I am not making reference to it's functionality, strength or quality.
Did I cross some taboo line here or something?

Pydpiper,

I don't know about any taboo line, I just didn't know what you meant.

I understand what you mean about the wow factor now. At first, when I was looking at it online, the aesthetics of it bothered me a little. Now, it's grown on me, and it seems more like a subdued elegance. An elegant tool, for a more civilized age, if you will :-D

BTW Feline Vet is my favorite source for SAKs.
Excellent value, fast shipping and it's all for a worthy charity.

Welcome to BladeForums, Carpdiem!

I've got three of the original SwissTools, and I've never felt any other multi-tools that are so solid. I imagine that your SwissTool Spirit has that same solid and functional feel.

The SwissTool "wow factor" for me was that they feel like a solid piece of steel, rather than a tool with so many capabilities! :)

The Spirit is pretty close to everything I'd ever hoped for in a multitool. It's reasonably light, reasonably small in size, has impeccable craftsmanship and design, and I got it dirt cheap. I can't ask for much more than that. Whenever I look at an oversized and overweighted Leatherman, I just kind of snicker. The Spirit is small enough to be worth carrying, but tough enough to do the job.

geothorn,

It's so true. That tool is very solid. I find I carry it in its sheath every day now, and I don't notice it's there until I need it. Very convinient.
