Newly infected, need help IDing

Purely on the size of the rivets I'm tempted to say that's a Sgt. Khadka, but there are others here who are more educated than I. Let's see what they say.

As sams mentioned, a picture of the marks on the opposite side of the blade would be helpful.

That khuk was made by Khukuri House, another maker that puts out a pretty fair product. In fact, I have a churura Ang Khola just like that one. I also have around half a dozen others from them and that is thier mark on the blade. The other characteristics that indicate a KH product is the style of the cho and the brass tip on the scabbard which are smaller and less pointed that HI's.

You can see that isnt an H.I. knife...

No actually I couldn't and that means I took in a knife on trade that was not what it was supposed to be. Hence I am looking for info on this knife...

So this is a khukuri house knife and not a HI?

If it's an HI, then it was made before Uncle Bill left us.

That's all I can say, sorry.

This is plenty pointy :D

As to the mark on the blade do you have a pic of a KH with that mark?

Please don't think I am arguing with you but that point on the scabbard is wicked sharp.

I'm no help. I'm just not knowledgable enough to give you the information you are looking for.

I just went in the garage to check on some older khuks I have to compare the "letters". I pulled one out of the trunk that I bought in 2001 and went in the truck to look at an older one. They all have the Himalayan Imports "lettering", different from your lettering. A few do not have a makers mark either. What causes doubt on it being a HI khukuri is the location of the marks [lettering]. Our kamis use symbols not letters and HI lettering mark is on the top near the bend of the blade.

Maybe this will help you decipher the "letters", sorry.

Possibly Tora? Perhaps Spiral can help identify it...he's certainly seen the lot of them.

:) Cool and thanks sams,

If its not an HI :( that sucks on one hand, because that's what I was told it was...on the other though its my first Khukuri and I am loving it anyway.

Does anyone know Spiral's email so I can ask him if he has any ideas on this little badboy?

Mea Culpa - I'm the fellow that traded the knife to The Chef. I've bought over the last six or seven years a dozen or so Khuks from Bill at HI and a couple from KH. I’ve never made much of a distinction between the two brands. For me they looked very nearly identical and certainly performed identically . Bill was a great guy to deal with and HI has a deservedly very loyal following. I remembered this AK as being an HI knife but I didn’t think to look at the markings to differentiate the makes. I now believe it's this is a KH blade. I do know it was one of my older and best used Khuks.

Cool thanks, Loki...

after some research on the KH site I saw one almost identical to this one with blade length and brass butt cap being the difference. Man, I was really hoping this was a HI, but I am happy with it anyway. Thanks for jumping on here! :D

I agree with Crooked Knife; I'm sure it is an older KH as well. Some of their stuff isn't bad and a few are great. I wish I had originally bought KH instead of all the NKH stuff I acquired initially, which is so-so for the most part. Of course, for that matter I wish I had bought HI first!

It isn't Sgt. Khadka as he doesn't allow any marks on his blades. The chape brass, the bolster and the handle rivets all say KH to me.

Thanks, Svashtar :) I think we got this cat in the bag and figured out its an old KH but man this thing is a BSH and I mean stout! This means I still need to get my first HI!:D

From what I've seen, I find Tora's khuks have a much higher degree of finish, and generally have broad leaf-shaped blades. Their chapes are never that pointy either!

i've never seen a sheath like that from H.I.

H.I usually has a sown frog. Large laces on the front, and stiching on the back of the "super frog". This one looks like the kind that KH or other competitors have which are made with a really thin piece of leather.

Also, only Sgt. Khadka has used the large rivets in my memory at least. And the sarge is a relative newcomer.

that bolster is also made of steel and not the typical habaki style.

Unless one the veterns before my time show up and point something out, like perhaps it's a shop 2 or shop 1 (wasn't around back then).

My bet is that it isn't a H.I.
