Newly Made Slipjoint

I do, really nice handles, looks to have good fit & finish,
Thanks for sharing,
Jim

I like certain aspects of the knife. It looks well built and the damascus looks good. I like the handle material as well but the overall look isn't working for me. It is too "busy" for my tastes with the bolster and cap (mokume?) in contrast with the blade. I think plain bolster and cap would suit this knife much better. Just personal preference on my part.......aesthetics.

Did you make the mokume? Lots of colors in there.

I'd have to agree with "morrow" about it being a bit busy. I also think stainless bolsters would accentuate the damascus blade a bit better.

That being said, overall it looks good, the nail nick looks perfect, and it is a pleasure having you posting on this forum.

I've been a long time fan of your damascus.

I like it. I am not crazy about mokume, but I like the steel and the mammoth ivory looks nice and grippy.

Thanks,

I made the mokume. I need to try one with plain bolsters.

I like the mokeme. You might not realize, this sub-forum in general is not full of mokeme, brass, nickel silver or copper lovers. They love their stainless and damascus.

What metals for the mokeme, looks like 3 component to me instead of the usual two?

What I also like is the way you kept the surface texture of the ivory. Too many slipjoint makers grind down too much of the surfact and thus remove way to much.

That's really nice. Great shape all over, very nice damascus, and a second on the treatment of the ivory.

The mokume is made of nickel/silver, brass, and copper.

I think it turned out great. That's some of the nicest ivory and mokume I have seen. At first glance it may seem to clash a bit but it's a bold damascus pattern. If you make a change I'd prefer a more reserved pattern but keep the mokume bolsters. As Brownshoe stated though, many folks around here just don't care for mokume at all. Aside from those details the execution is just spot on...

Gday Devin,
I tend to agree with morrowj however that looks like very nice mokume. Will you have any at Blade??

Cheers Bruce

Great craftsmanship.
The quality of the components and the shapes and finish of each can be admired individually, as singular pieces of art.
Busy?
Well, overall the effect is a bit like wearing striped pants, a plaid shirt and a polka dot tie.
Good thing their Armani!

Hey Gary,
Hey everybody,

Thanks for for your kind words and constructive criticism.

The blade is less than three inches long and about a half an inch wide. Blown up the pattern may look a little bold.

With my eyesight it looks great. When I was younger it might have been to bold.

I should have some mokume at the blade show.

I thought your brother was the folder guy and you were into kitchen knives. Very well done, or should I say "nice job some of you guys".
