News: Teen calls mum as bears eat her

That is the most disturbing thing I have ever heard....... I was just saying in my head "holy s**t" the whole time as I was reading it.

I quickly got over the disturbing part, the sad though still is lingering. From someone in this part of the world who has never seen a bear, what I'd like to take away though from reading it is a lot more respect and prudence when going "out there".

Odd, most bears don't dine on humans.

For those of us who are able to carry in the woods this is one chilling reason why we should.

Makes you wonder what 911 calls they don't think you need to know about.

I can't quite get my head around the priorities of the mother in this all:

From the linked to article:..."The Daily Mail reports that Olga Moskalyova, 19, gave a chilling hour-long running commentary on her own death in three separate calls as the wild animals mauled her near a river in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, eastern Siberia, recently.

and ..."Tatiana alerted authorities and when they arrived half an hour later, the bears were still eating the pair, the Daily Mail reports."

So I can only assume from this that her mum waited at least 1/2 an hour from when the bears started their meal to when she called the "Authorities"?

Strange indeed.

It may have been three different voice mails. I doubt the mother would have hung up after the first call, otherwise.

... which reminds us that nature doesn't actually care about us one way or another. Or about anything else, for that matter.

Umm.... don't rely on your cell-phone for protection when in bear country? Or is there an ap? Babes in the wildernes...

Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, eastern Siberia

Half hour later? Rough country to rush through. Good bet that all the people involved knew something about bears in the area. Unhappy story in any case.

Stories about people i dont know dont really bother me much, but this really struck a nerve. Listening to my child being chewed upon as they scream and the feeling of helplessness just listening on the other end of the line is absolute horror.

IMO people who go hiking/camping in areas where there are known to be bears or other predators.... really should have a gun on them. You always hear people saying they wanna CCW in daily life, but in reality the times you really should have a gun on you is when you're out in the wilderness.
