In my paper Maine Sunday Telegram, in the Insight section (C) there's a couple page story on Nepal and Maoists. Good pics, but haven't gotten to read the story yet. I don't know if this is a sydicated piece or not, but at least forumites in Maine can see it. I would scan it in but I don't have a flatbed scanner. I'm going to try and link to it on the web if I can find it.

Rob,

If I can remember (questionable at times), I'll look for the story on the AP wire tomorrow at work. If it is there, maybe there is an online newspaper somewhere that we can link to. I'd just download it, but I'm not sure that'd be Kosher with my bosses. ...

I'll post what I find out tomorrow night (early Tuesday morning I guess). .. sigh, I hate swing/night shifts. I never know what day it is...

Thanks Alan, but don't bother. I just read the article and it was done by a local freelance photographer/writer and not and AP synd.piece. Now that I've read it, it doesn't say much we don't already know from forumite posts and links. and doesn't even mention khukuris ONCE--so you know it can't be any good;)

All kidding aside, I'm darn glad they didn't mention them in relation to Maoist violence etc...

I get fieldback from the field in Nepal and that's worse than the news reports -- the down and dirty aspect of it all.

and the news isn't exactly good in the first place:( The article I read more or less put it this way: that the poor people of Nepal are stuck between corrupt and inefficient gov't and police and the stranglehold of the Maoists, but that they are gravitating toward the promises of the Maoists over more of the status quo. Is this what you think is going on Uncle?
