Guys,
I'm in the last stages of the flu, don't feel great but the brain is regaining some function. Anyway, was watching a documentary on the retaking of the Phillipines & saw a GI of the 1st Cav with a khuk on his belt. It was during the landing at Luzon. 1st Cav trained in Australia so that's bound to be where he got it. Anybody else got any sightiings?

This isn't an authentic sighting but khuk fans should still love it. I just watched the movie "King of the Khyber Rifles" and it is full of khukuries. The movie is set at the end of the British rule in India and I taped it on a fluke that I might see someone wearing a khuk. Turns out the movie is filled with them. You will have to take it with a grain of salt since they throw khuks at a target while riding horses and sometimes carry them commando style in their mouth. There is even a scene where they throw down their rifles and pull out their khuks ready to fight. Fun stuff. Enjoy.

"King of the Khyber Rifles" is a great book, too. Written by Talbot Mundy. Inspired the character Athelstane King (same name) in S.M. Sterling's "The Peshawar Lancers". Set in the same geographical area (India), but in an alternate reality. Great read.

The Khyber Rifles is an actual regiment.

:p Just noticed Kevin Costner with a khuk in "Waterworld." It's the scene right after they reach dry land; he's cutting herbs or grass with it. 18" sirupati-lookin'.

Recently featured in Resident Evil: Extinction.

Also seen in 1992 in Bram Stoker's Dracula.

l don't recall seeing any in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and that's a bummer.

IMDB says locations were:
Alabama Hills, Lone Pine, California, USA
(Khyber Pass)

India
(background exteriors)

Iverson Ranch, Chatsworth, Los Angeles, California, USA

Sierra Nevada Mountains, California, USA
(Himalayas)

Hollywood magic:D.

Spiral,
Movies are funny sometimes. I try not to analyze but immerse myself in the hoax of scene to enjoy it fully. However, I think land is like strange meat...everything tastes like chicken and all exotic land in movies looks like California. Go figure. Thanks for the facts Berkley.

Thanks Berk! Calls thunder!

Guess there is or was a prop house with a lot of kukri then! :D

I was hoping they used Indian extras & local weapons! :o

The movie is set at the time of the Mutiny of 1857. The rifles are cast down (in favor of khuks) because the cartridges may be greased with unclean beef or pig fat. "We (still?) have these.")
