Guys,

This arrived the other day for me to send forward to a lucky collector. It's a 'run-of-the-mill' Newton folder.... which is to say it's mindboggling once again! Ron's damascus, I swear I can tell across the room by now. :D

The little hammer swings up and clicks into place as the trigger cocks. I confess, I don't know the particulars on the firing, but there is a little socket that looks like it takes a cap. .22 pellet? Someone clue me in. Once everything is home all the parts fit flush and clean.

Understated traditional tooth filework surronds it. I know you guys would enjoy this, if you haven't already seen it.

Thanks,

Coop

I saw that one at Blade and it is every bit as awesome as you picture shows it to be. The detail work is really incredible. Ron gave me the run-down on the firing mechanism, but the details are lost in the Blade-overload.

I love it. I wonder if it would be legal to import a knife like that into Canada?

I'll take a wild guess and say no freakin' way in hell. :(

this is the coolest folder I have ever seen.
Just what a Pinkerton man in the 1890's would have needed...

Every bit as impressive in the "flesh", this piece fascinated me at Blade, the engineering and skill that goes into them is incredible. Superb.

Thanks for a wonderful job on the photography Coop. You never cease to amaze me.

And thank you guys for the kind compliments on the knife. I'll give a description below:

As far as demensions go, this is an exact repro of Belgian made 1850 antique "cut and shoot" folder. I own the original antique which is in mint condition. The original has engraved brass side plates and a carbon steel blade. I chose to go with some modern damascus and colorful brown lip pearl interframe inlays with a touch of 24 kt gold wire around the borders. It has a .17 cal. cap and ball mechanism with synchronized folding hammer and trigger. I have proof fired it and it sounds like a magnum firecracker blast with enough power to thrust the lead projectile through a small phonebook. The slipjoint blade is almost 3" in length.
While the outer appearance looks quite simplistic, the internals have a fair amount of precision machining involved, mainly due to the synchronization of the hammer and trigger.

A collector had told me recently that a .17 cal. blackpowder mechanism was the maximum caliber legal in Canada. I have not done my own personal research to verify if this is correct.

Thanks again for enjoying.
