That's great, three different steels, three different styles. I bet that keeps you from getting bored, huh? Are you going to do a frame handle on that bowie?

That Persian is gonna be sick. I look forward to seeing pics of it. Hollow grind or flat?

I'm still working on that WIP knife, just did the handle today...

Also, what kind of anvil are those resting on?

Salem, that's my Dad's 155 pounder Peter Wright.
Plan is for a simple hidden tang on the bowie but it may morph into a take down. (I really liked my first experience).
The Persian will probably be flat ground, front and back. Don't think I can pull the double grind with the a hollow grind. Even with flat, keeping the center line straight scares me. :( It does look wicked doesn't it? :D

Following your WIP, good stuff! Thanks for sharing.

I'm working on the bench itself! :D Seriously, I built a 2'x4' bench today for my KMG that just came in.

I also got some 110 and 220 wired up in the last couple of days, no more extension cords! I installed a front porch style floodlight above the new bench, it is much brighter now!

I have a big 5160 chopper I'm working on, I guess that is up next on the bench.

Nice looking knives Patrice, I can't wait to see how they come out.

Sweet action!

Some of you might laugh if you saw my first couple threads....because I got that damn bug bite you all keep talking about. I've gone knifemakin crazy! I made one from an angle grinder, files, and sandpaper....then I slapped some neoprene scales on a blank I aquired. Since then I have been churning those out like a mad man...

and then got some orders for fully custom jobs....
None have been sent out for heat treat yet but, from left to right:
A small necker - D2
A custom ordered skinnner to match the HUGE gut hook on the other end - D2
A multipurpose 3" blade - D2
Another multipurpose 3 1/2" blade - D2
My first knife - 5160
A blade a friend of mine designed and has been coming over and working on - ATS-34
A huge gut hook hunter custom ordered - D2

Daniel, I also work on the shop itself as much as I work on the knives. Or so it seems.

Python, you sure are a busy body! :)

Thanks for the good words guys.

Patrice, I'm looking forward to seeing how you grind the "Persian".

As for what I'm working on, at the moment I'm working on a balisong for the friend that got me into this hobby. I showed him the progress yesterday and let him pick the materials that will be in the handle.

Following that I'm going to do a trench knife. I found a real (but badly damaged) handle from a model 1918 LF&C trench knife... just the handle, no pommel, no blade. This is the old "knuckle duster" handle, but the front guard was broken (or possibly ground) off. I won't even attempt to restore it... but I will attempt to make it usable again. I already ground down the stub of the guard to make it even... now I'm thinking about blade shapes.

Patrice, I'm looking forward to seeing how you grind the "Persian".

You and me both Greg. I am grinding it right now and I just realized that doing a flat grind and starting with 1/8th thick stock I may end up having trouble keeping the centerline from washing away the closer to the ricasso I get. :( It's a learning experience for sure.

Looking great! Is that a lapis bolster... very appropriate!

I bet that grind was loads of fun. :D

If I have to get stabbed to death, that's the knife I'd want sticking out of me.

That dagger is looking great!
I'm still trying to figure out how you grind on the inside of that tight a curve...

Patrice, your Dagger blade already looks awsome !!! Stay with that one Bud. With some of your touches not yet revealed to use viewers I'll just bet it comes out to be a super art knife !!! I hope you have enough sandpaper to finish this one. Frank

Daniel, if lapis is made of mild steel with leftover milling marks well sure. ;) Still not good enough or rich enough to trust myself with higher end materials. Maybe someday. And you are right, the grind was so much fun....NOT! Easier on a 10" wheel than the flat grind I had planned on a t first though.

Gregg, not sure it's good or bad but thanks! :D

Barnett, my wheel was a little wide (2") so I used the edge of the wheel for the tightest part. It is less than perfect believe me and need lots of cleaning up still.

It does look nasty, I just hope I can do it justice with handle, fittings and all.
And live up to Frank's expectations. ;) I do have a few things planned that may be above my skill level. We'll see.

Thanks for the good words guys.

So it sounds like you did end up hollow grinding that persian? Anyway, the grinds are rockin' on that thing and I can't wait to see it done.

It would look awesome with lapis there.

Yes Salem, stock was too thin and the middle crest (don't know what it is called) was washing out with the flat grind. I will use thicker stock the next time.

The lapis is a good idea. I would love to have time to take a jeweler's course or two.

.

:foot: But I swear it looked blue... :D

I think you would do just fine with lapis, but as you know it takes a different set of tools.

Looking great!

You were partly right Daniel.
Poor man's lapis = blue layout die. ;)
Now you've done it! I feel that my list of tools to buy is about to get longer....again. :(;)
