Next Batch of 3" XM-18s?

According to a guy over at the green forum who said he attended the MM lottery in Arizona, there were 3" productions at the table. He told me he couldn't remember if they had logos or not, but I think they probably did. Hopefully that means they're currently being produced!!

I can't wait. Hopefully a new batch of dress up parts will not be far behind.

I asked Rob about the first responder batches and this was his response:
Model Availability is as follows;

XM-18 3" model ($385) - APR-MAY

XM-18 3.5" model ($385) - Mid March

XM-24 4" model ($550) - JUL-AUG....More of a guess than a lead time at this point.

I don't know if they are the same for retail but I know topspec had a few last week.

Does this mean the new ones are generation 3?

I'm not sure, I have seen two for sale since then and both still had the same blade stop pin position and new logo/ s35vn steel.

PLEASE NOTE! I haven't talked to any of the crew at the Ranch about anything, so please don't quote me. Just my own opinions and assumptions!

I just picked one up from a forum member here that acquired it at the MM lottery. It has the new logo and USA s35vn markings. It has the old stop pin placement but the blade tang/spine area has changed to look like the gen 4 xm's which would allow for the new stop pin placement.

3" are Gen 2, regardless of logos (which aren't a generational change). I haven't seen any from Monkey Muster but I am certain the stop pin location hasn't changed as they can't change it on the 3" due to lack of real estate.

What do you mean "the blade tang/spine area has changed to look like the gen 4 xm's"? How is it any different than all Gen 2 3" XMs?

They can't move the stop pin location on the 3" to be consistent with the location of the 3.5".

Here are some comparative photos. The first pic is the newer 3". The 2nd pic shows an older one next to a gen 4 3.5.

Ok, I see what you mean, the shape of the blade is different behind the gimping with the newest production only having three notches and the prior production having four. Both my production Gen 2s (one spanto, one slicer) have four notches. This may be just a byproduct of the latest production of Gen 2 3" having some carry over of the Gen 4 3.5" production model blade shape. Regardless, these production 3" models are all Gen 2s and the stop pin location hasn't and isn't changing to my knowledge.

Fair enough. So it is like in analogy a Version 2.1 with minor changes but not yet a version 3. Thanks.

Not really, there is either a generational change or not according to Rick. There are always insignificant changes that could occur from production run to production run. Rick can change the thumbstud profile, Rob O. could turn up/turn down the laser, Rob R. could swap out some tooling in one of multiple Haas machines, the media could be swapped out in the tumbler/media cabinet, Lori might have to change the coolant in the Haas, the G10/titanium/steel supplier might change, many things could happen that the end user might detect (or believe) is different which is not meaningful.
