Next Becker Purchase

Get the BK4 now before they get hard to come by, discontinued, you'll be glad you did. You can always get the 9 later and you'll want to...

The BK9 is a better chopper (slightly), the BK4 is a less expensive chopper. The rest is just aesthetics

The 4 really is a completely different knife than the 9 and in a unique good way. Kind of hard to explain in a post but you'll know what I'm talking about when you play with one. But like the man says the 9 out chops the 4 easily.

The only way to find out which you really like is to just get both, use both, and pick your favorite. What you do with the other one is purely up to you after that, both are great knives.

Here's how I use both. The 4 is actually a great bring one knife on a hike or excursion or shorter campout. It chops fine for it's size, smaller then the 9. What separates the 4 for me is how easy it was for me to do the fine stuff is, I couldn't believe how comfortable it was for such things. You can chop and split wood for a lifetime with the 9 happily but it'll never be as cool as the 4. Get both...

Just get both of them, you won't regret it, both are awesome, love the looks of the 4 and the capabilities on the 9

side by side!!!

Get the 9. The 9 chops better.
Or if you are SERIOUS about chopping, go for the 21!

I'm looking to pick up a chopper. Thinking between the BK9 & BK4. what do you all recommend?

Yep.

Just kidding. You can't go wrong with either. I personally like the 9 better, but, I've also used the 9 way more. I think I would like the 4 equally well, if I used it as much.

And, I couldn't agree with abrasion more. The 4 works great for fine tasks. I can feather stick with it way easier than the 9.

Thanks for all the input guys. I think that I'm leaning a little more towards the 4 just because it looks a lot more unique. It's also quite a bit cheaper right now, and I'd kick myself if I missed it before it's gone. But I'm still not sure.

I don't blame you one bit. Get the 4 first. The niner is gonna be around for awhile I'm guessing. ;)

I agree with everything the collective brain-trust has shared, in particular:

1. Getting the 4 first in as much as it is being discontinued.
2. The 4 is better for close work.
3. The 4 looks cooler and is unique.
4. The 9 is marginally better a chopper, I suppose - say some. To me? Depends on what you are chopping.
5. You will wind up with both anyways but if limited to one now - get the 4.
6. Get both.
7. Get two of each because you will need a user and a keeper. With the 4 being discontinued, get a third BK-4.

Lastly, and as someone once said and as is often repeated here, you can't not have a 9.

Im repeating what's been said but here's my opinion.

The chopping beast is the bk21 kukri. But it's no finesse knife given its size. (and weight if that matters). A beautiful creation.
The 9 is the King.
I haven't figured out the 4 yet, but it seems like a perfect balance of capability for its weight, be sure to checkout posts on it. It's going away so I would buy it now.

Buy 2 of the bk4 to start - since its discontinued, having a spare will eliminate the fear to use a knife that will eventually be harder to replace. Then get the 9 too haha

Get the 4. Seriously....it's not the chopper the 9 is (it's close), but it has a versatility and je ne se quois that's been experienced by many and described by few....love them both, but with the 4 on the way out and the 9 slated to be around for a while, the choice (to me) seems crystal clear....
