I'm almost ready to buy my second CRK.
I have a small regular Sebbie, next up is either a small classic or Umfaan. Any opinions? I'll have both in time.:)

If you have been looking for a gent's knife with gusto, take the Umfaan. It is clipless, but I have been quite satisfied with carrying it in the leather pouch (for all of 3 days:) )

It has only taken about a day to get used to rotating the pouch in the pocket and releasing the Umfaan into my hand, maintaining the one-hand functionality. The 2.25 inch cutting edge is adequate for all my office tasks. At 1.5 oz, I can also take it out of the pouch and carry in my shirt pocket where it rides nicely.

The little thumbstud will dig into your thumb though. If you are going to get a Small Classic, you may want to wait for the Leather Inlay, coming next Summer.

Get the Umfaan now and go ahead and order a small classic with the leather inlays for this summer. It will give you something to look forward too!:D

I have only the large models, but they present no problem for me to carry and use. I live in the western part on N.C. in a rural area, so 3.5" of blade is not a problem. I always carry a large to school, as I am a 7th grade science teacher, and most of the kids don't even blink when I take my Sebbie out for a cutting chore:D In fact I've had one or two tell me their father, brother, uncle or cousin have a knife like that but it's bigger;) ;)

I have picked up a Spyderco Toad for off pocket carry. Figure I will use it to dissect toads with this year:) Just thought I would add that!!

I just picked up a small classic from the custom shop at CR knives. It is the standard small classic but with silver contrast, pearl inlay, polished blade and double thumb studs. I too had a small regular that I sold a while back; ended up with a large California Buckeye burl wood large Sebenza. That's used for hunting and bigger chores. The new classics are great, but if you already have a regular small, than you are basicly looking at the same knife in the classic. If you want a nice small gentlemans folder, try the new Mnandi. These are great deep pocket size folders that are strong and easy to use. Great to carry without the pocket clip. Boy oh boy, choices, choices. Aren't you glad there are so many. Maybe one of each is in store for your collection. ;)

"Classic I Say"

Hello, Well not entirely because the regular ones that are the Wooden Inlayed ones are very very cool!!:) Most recently they have been coming out with a few "Wood Inlay Classics" in the large size.

I have not seen many... but from what I hear the Classic Wood Inlay is not limited on production. So it should be readily avalible soon. The leather inlay is another version of the same inlay pattern that is chosen for the "Classics'. It is a three piece pattern... whereas the standard Wood inlay Sebenza is just two pieces(one on each side).

Like the previous reply said CRK will be having some small W.I.S. "Classics" and small leather inlay "Classics" made sometime during the middle of this coming year. One of those in a Wood Inlay sounds like a good bet to me.:D Also like the last reply said the new Mnandi is a great pocket knife and super strong...not to mention well designed.

Have you checked out the Mnandi. If you are looking for a small gents type knife the Mnandi is a great size and you get a wood inlay with spending real wood inlay money. Plus, the blade size is close to the small Sebenza so you still can perform a variety of chores.

However, if you like the blade/handle style of the regular Sebenza but want a smaller gents version go Umfaan. It is a tough little knife and will last a lifetime.

Now... if you just like the Classic look -- don't get a small classic, it is pretty much the same knife you already have. Go for the large Classic. Great feel in a large knife or wait for the leather or wood inlay small. Spending bucks on a small ti classic would seem fruitless since you already have the small regular.

Good luck in your next purchase,

JT

Well, you guys didn't make things any easier!:) The small is about the perfect size for me, a classic would be back up for my regular. The Umfaan would fill an empty space.
This will require some further thought.
BTW, inlays aren't really me. I'm more of the t-shirt and jeans type.

Then the classic Sebenza is for you.

I gave my brother an old style small Sebenza a few Christmas' ago, he finally started carrying it this last summer and can't leave his bedroom without it anymore. There is a large Classic under his tree right now :)

Stjames has given you sound advice. The Umfaan is more of a "Office Environment" knife. I carry one in my left pocket daily. A very small, useful knife in the office.

Hey St.James, can I be your brother for a Christmas? You only have to get me one thing! :D

Happy Holidays
