Hi guys,

I am thinking of getting a CRKT Sampson's Kiss Knife in tanto blade with a combo edge.
This seems to be a good knife from what I hear and looks. Should I be getting something else? I want a lightweight sturdy knife for some chores.
What do you guys think??

For under $50 you'd be hard pressed to find anything better than CRKT's line. The KISS is a nice, innovative little knife that's sure to get some attention. Heard some stories of the knife unlocking. Never had it happen to me, but then I only use mine for light cutting.

If you want a sturdier knife, the CRKT Point Guard, Mirage or M16 are all great using knives and all three come in two sizes. I've got the Point Guard and Mirage and am real pleased with them.

CRK&T has some nice blades under $50. Check out the LUS. Also check out the Spyderco lightweights. I very highly recomend the Native.

Hey Fly,
I don't know if you're interested in changing your mind, but in my opinion, the Spyderco Calypso Jr. Lightweight is the best folder under $50. Mine is plain-edged which I think takes advantage of the superb flat ground blade. The VG-10 steel cuts like crazy, stays sharp for quite a while and sharpens right up. It's not too big to attract any unwanted attention, but is light and tough! I haven't found anything that I like better for less than $50. I think you should at least look at one if you haven't. Let us know what you decide!

I'd have to second the motion for the Spyderco Calypso, Jr. or the Native or the Delica or the Endura ... all great cutters for under $50, if you do your shopping right.

I would put all the other suggestions mentioned here ahead of the Sampson. A novelty design, but by far not best in class. Go with:
Mirage
Delica
Pointguard
Kasper FF
M16
endura
Calypso
native
CS Voyagers
Outdoor Edge Magna, Impulse, Field Lites
... or even a lightweight Buck or Gerber LST.

my 3 (soon to be more) crkt knives are perfect.i have the stiff kiss in the regular blade shape (wanted the tantom, but this one was discounted)partially serrated.great little knife.chisel ground,so it isnt "scary" sharp, but it will cut, thats for sure.
crkt's knives are great bang for the buck.ive also got the m-16 and the mirage(only costs about 20-25 bucks) both knives are tough as hell.and sharp.no problems cutting through anything you would normally cut with knives.
go with crkt.

I would consider an Outdoor Edge Field Lite knife. AUS8 steel, great lock up, one of the niceer zytel handles (nicer than Cold Steel IMO). And under $50...comes in a clip point or spear point.

I don't think you can ever go wrong with the lightweight Spydercos like the Calypso jr. Native, Delica, or Endura. If SOG ever comes out with their BG-42 lightweights, they will be good deals also.
